Hi all, I am a recent graduate majoring accounting and  became interested in auditing. But when I searched job related to auditing, I found that nearly every auditing job required auditing experience. My question is how to get into auditing profession without any auditing experience. Thank you guys.

Hi Grace,

There are a few major accounting employers like PWC, KPMG and E&Y that take graduates all year round so I would consider applying for them right now. There will also be heaps of other graduate programs for auditors opening up in March and April next year, so check them out :)

Graduate programs are designed for those with know experience, so since you just graduated, probably your best option.

Thanks Mike. But I am an international student so I guess it is unlikely to get an offer form big4. Is there any company provide similar program?

hi grace,

if it seems harder to get entry in big4 then you should try big8. that involves eight accounting firm who has been doing there job with reputation.

I have the same question. But I sort of want to change gear from accounting to auditing.

So you have an accounting position all ready? Or are you an accounting student/graduate?

Hi Mike,

I graduated in 2008 and soon after that found an accounting role in a small private company, which is not a professional accounting firm. I did all the a/r, a/p, payroll, forecast and budgeting, cashflow management stuff. Finally got my CPA last year. However, I don't wanna stay with my current employer any more as there is no career developments, I am the only accounting person in the company...and I would like to change gear to auditing.

As I am an old grad, not many companies would like to take an old grad in the grad programme...

Hi Niki,

Now that you are qualified and have experience I would strongly advise you to look at experienced applications within accounting firms with an audit arm.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply. I would give it a go. But the downside is I don't have any auditing experience, that's why I still wanna try for grad programme this year.

Hi Niki,

One option would be to look for an auditing course through CPA or CA or alternatively return to university to complete a major/minor in accounting/auditing.

Hi Mike,

Yeah, I have done auditing in my CPA programme...I will go for a try for some mid tier firms and gov sections this year:)

Great! Please let me know how you get on, it would be good to hear so we can advise other students in a similar position in the future :)

Good luck,
