Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAH), fondly known as 'the San', is operated by Adventist HealthCare – a Christian not-for-profit organisation. The San is NSW’s largest private hospital with over 700 beds, employing over 2300 staff, 500 volunteers and 1000 accredited medical officers.

Our New Graduate Midwives participate in a program which enables you to make the transition from newly Registered Midwife to competent practitioner. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills within the exceptional facilities at the San under the guidance of experienced and supportive staff. Our Maternity and Women's Health Unit at San has a reputation for excellence. We have 40 beds, 9 birthing rooms, 15 special care nursery beds, and 2,000 births annually. We are a busy and dynamic unit with long-standing relationships with some of Sydney's leading Obstetricians.

As a New Graduate Midwife, we will offer you:

  • A structured program with rotations through birth unit, postnatal/antenatal ward and special care nursery
  • Clinical support from Maternity Educators, and Senior experienced midwives to mentor in all clinical areas
  • Comprehensive Orientation program, supernumerary days at the beginning of each rotation
  • Paid study days.

Selection criteria

  • You MUST be eligible for registration as a midwife with the Nurses and Midwives Registration board (AHPRA), including English language requirements
  • Australian Citizenship (eligible to work in Australia, full time hours, or citizens residing in Australia who hold a current Special Category permit and have Permanent Resident status).
  • Must be able to work a full-time 7-day rotating roster.

  • Curriculum Vitae including 2 referees. One referee must be a clinical teacher, preceptor, or other senior nurse that you have reported to at a clinical placement within the last 12 months. The other referee must be a current or previous manager in a place of employment. This does not have to have been employment in the nursing or midwifery field.
  • Signed copies of two recent clinical assessments.

Salary is dependent upon classification and in accordance in the AHCL Nursing Employees Enterprise Agreement 2020.
