About ANSTO

Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation - ANSTO

For over 60 years the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) has used nuclear science and technology to answer fundamental questions about our universe, develop solutions for industry, and deliver significant health benefits to the approximately one in two Australians who will receive a nuclear medicine procedure in their lifetime.

ANSTO is one of the country’s largest public research organisations and custodian of much of the country’s landmark and national research infrastructure, including Australia’s only nuclear reactor, the Open Pool Australian Light-water (OPAL) multi-purpose reactor, the Australian Synchrotron, the Centre for Accelerator Science, and the Australian Centre for Neutron Scattering.

More than 500 scientists, engineers and technicians work at ANSTO to answer significant environmental, health, nuclear fuel cycle and industrial questions using nuclear techniques.

ANSTO is committed to improving Australia’s understanding and engagement with Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine (STEMM) in order to help develop our future leaders and innovators.
