Graduate stories

What our graduates say

“The Business Banking program was a life-changing experience. It gave me the opportunity to build rapport with a diverse range of small to corporate companies and really understand their values and the intricacies of their business. I am now finishing the program and walking into a Relationship Manager position, with my own portfolio of clients and striving towards helping them achieve their business goals."

“I was recently chatting with some of the senior leaders at Bankwest, who were each saying that they’d like to stay at Bankwest until their retirement. I’m only 23…but I can pretty confidently say I’d be happy to work here until I retire too. Being a grad at Bankwest is genuinely one of the most rewarding, inspiring and enjoyable experiences I could have imagined. The bank opens doors for you. If you’re passionate and keen to succeed, the people at Bankwest are willing to move mountains to give you the most incredible opportunities. The flexible, agile environment at Bankwest means there’s no typical work day, and so I’m constantly learning. I’ve helped design the Bankwest mobile app, had the chance to write business deals in Broome and Narrogin, organised an Australia-wide diversity and inclusion event, and most importantly have made lifelong friendships along the way.”

“Coming to the bank as a graduate I thought it would be hard to add value, and get opportunities and support to excel in my career. I started my journey as a software developer and had an amazing opportunity to move to software architecture after just the first year. This opportunity further lead me to working with the Enterprise Architecture team to define the future technology stack of the bank by my third year, I couldn’t believe it! All this due to the continuous career support and inspiration of leaders.”

“Despite being the only Melbourne graduate I was able to connect and develop lasting relationships with colleagues nationally. The grad program gave me the opportunity to participate in a plethora of commercial transactions ranging from small/medium business to large corporate transaction. I was provided the opportunity to take on a strategic review of one of our business units which challenged me with real world responsibilities. The range of skills and knowledge I developed over the 12 month program equipped me to confidently take on my role as an Account Manager in Corporate Banking.”

“I've been given the opportunity to learn, challenge and contribute from the moment that I started the grad program; with my thoughts, views, and opinions listened to, welcomed and valued. My future professional and personal development is in my hands. I've been given exposure to so many amazing development opportunities and am constantly encouraged to continue to grasp any and every opportunity to help reach my future goals.”

“10 months ago, I set out on a journey of discovery when I decided to join Bankwest as a graduate. Little did I know how amazed I would be by my own transformation! Bankwest has an amazing culture where, along with embracing my Mauritian background, I feel free to approach and talk with anyone, and to express myself. I feel included because my opinion is valued and taken into consideration on a daily basis. It is not just about the incredible workplace but as a graduate, I have been given loads of opportunities to develop both my technical and soft skills by attending or organising workshops and conferences. With Bankwest, every day is a new exciting adventure and it is with great pride that I call myself a Bankwest Graduate.”
