About Us

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank

The Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Group has a long and proud history.

For 158 years, we have actively listened and responded to the needs of our customers and their communities.

Our history began in 1858 on the Bendigo goldfields when we responded to the sudden and rapid wave of migration, establishing the Bendigo Mutual Permanent Land and Building Society to improve conditions for thousands of migrants seeking their fortune.

Soon after in 1877, South Australia's Hindmarsh Building Society was established, founded on the principles that home ownership was the cornerstone of a successful community and that owning a home should be possible for everyone.

These businesses and more than 80 other organisations have come together to become the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Group, an Australian owned, top 60 ASX listed company, with more than 99,000 shareholders.

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank has assets under management of more than $65.7 billion and market capitalisation of around $4.6 billion.

We are Australia's fifth largest retail bank, with more than 7,200 staff helping our 1.6 million customers to achieve their financial goals.

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank's vision is to be Australia's most customer-connected bank, and we believe our success is driven by helping our customers and the communities in which we operate to be successful.

This history informs who we are today.

Bendigo & Adelaide Bank Graduate Programs

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank

"Open for applications on 5th March"

Think of our Graduate Programs like a sushi train. You'll get a sample of a few bits and pieces but not the whole carriage. In fact it’s likely you will have had more experiences than a number our people by the time your program finishes. We offer a very competitive salary but our Employee Value Proposition is more than a payslip. The Bendigo and Adelaide Group is the kind of place you can continue to reinvent yourself if you have the want, the desire and commitment to make it happen. If your motivators are simply money and getting to the top at light-speed, we are not likely to be a good fit for each other. We don’t roll that way. Just saying.

Think of this as an 18-24 month apprenticeship. We are investing in potential and thus expect some errors – that’s part of learning. Yes, we have expectations of absolute commitment but not that 11-hr day stuff with weekend top ups we hear about. Why burn you out – so you want to leave post-program? Doesn’t make sense to us and neither should it to you.

Community Responsibility

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank

The role of our bank is to feed into prosperity, not off it.

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank is often lauded for its social responsibility because of our work with communities – almost as if we have tacked a social conscience on to our business strategy. But working for the benefit of our customers and their communities is our business strategy.

It makes sense - you cannot run a successful business in an unsuccessful community. Therefore, if we can help communities to prosper, then we will have strengthened our markets. And if Bendigo and Adelaide Bank is an essential part of the community fabric, then we are more likely to be supported and to build a sustainable business.

Our approach begins with listening. How do local leaders see their community growing? What are their problems? Can Bendigo and Adelaide Bank help them address these threats and opportunities?

Often we can do so by finding ways to secure banking access. But increasingly we are finding other ways to help, too.

We have been able to build a number of successful business models built on simple methods - encourage local people to commit to buying their services through a company committed to retaining at least some of its earnings in their community.

To date, we have contributed $183M back into the communities we serve.

Why Join Us?

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank

The Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Group has a certain quality very difficult to articulate in a spiel. Perhaps it’s because we are big enough to have a fully articulated and meaningful career yet be small enough that you don’t get lost in the machine. Or that our customer and community focus which has always been in our DNA and not a PR exercise. The competitive salary and benefits? The great people? Maybe it’s our authenticity and walking the walk? Whatever it is, it’s working.

Take a walk on the mild side.
