Biosecurity Weeds Officer

The Mid-Western Region is located in the Central Tablelands of NSW, just over 3 hours from Sydney. As the Mid-Western Region continues to grow and prosper at a steady rate, Council now employs over 400 staff members and has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Biosecurity Weeds Officer to work with and support the Chief Weeds Officer in planning for and managing the eradication and control of identified issues and Biosecurity matters in the Mid-Western Regional Local Government area in an environmentally conscious manner. Key Accountabilities
  • To provide technically sound advice to Council staff, rate payers and occupiers of land on issues relating to Biosecurity matters and appropriate controls
  • To ensure Council ratepayers and occupiers of land within the region are legally compliant with respect to legislative requirements of the Biosecurity Act 2015
  • To deliver effective weed control via inspection and spraying in accordance with the Biosecurity regulation
  • To inspect, identify, map, monitor and control Biosecurity matter in the council area in accordance with council policy and procedure
  • To carry out biosecurity inspections and management duties on Council owned and managed properties as required
  • To actively promote and demonstrate the core values and behavioural requirements of the Workplace Environment Statement
To be successful in this role you will have
  • Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management or equivalent
  • Current Farm Users Chemical Certificate
  • Current “C” class drivers’ licence
  • Demonstrated experience in weed identification
  • Experience in the use of chemical spray equipment
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of herbicides, their safe handling and application
  • Experience in dealing with the public in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to identify invasive species and recommend weed control techniques
  • Demonstrated/well developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Superior understanding of weed control techniques and the methods, materials, tools and equipment used
  • Ability to clearly and accurately fill out required forms
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety responsibilities and a commitment to attending relevant WHS training
  • Proven ability to organise daily work schedules and carry out the job in a time efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Proven ability to be able to work as part of a team and unsupervised for extended periods
The salary range being offered for the position of Biosecurity Weeds Officer is $2242.90 - $2525.00 per fortnight (dependent on skills, qualifications and experience) plus superannuation, a 19 day fortnight and long service leave after 5 years.
