About the Role: The Community Development Planner is required to facilitate positive community and cultural development based on building social capital and capacity within Council and the community. Council is committed to an integrated approach to address key strategic areas, this position is required to work closely with other areas within Council to achieve the adopted community development outcomes.
  • Develop and implement community and cultural development and social planning policies, strategies and activities
  • Project manage key projects identified in Councils Delivery Plan
  • Develop and review policies and procedures in relation to community development
  • Work in partnership with the local community to support neighbourhood and family networks, to facilitate local participation and access to facilities and services
  • Contributing to interdepartmental working parties/planning groups
  • Provision of advice, reports and acquittals to Council, Senior Staff and others as required
  • Planning to support the delivery of services, programs and infrastructure; including informing the development of delivery and operational plans and budgets for this area and the development of strategic partnerships with external stakeholders
  • Overseeing grant funded programs and ensuring that these adhere to associated guidelines and agreements
  • Promote information sharing and knowledge transfer to drive evidence-based decision-making
  • Contribute to the performance of Council: demonstrate professional conduct, make the best use of knowledge, experience and skills and be accountable for own decisions and actions
  • Contribute to a safe workplace: comply with legislative and organisational requirements and be accountable for own decisions and actions
About You: You are someone who acts with integrity and can display resilience at an adept level. You are planned and responsive to organisational priorities and develop pragmatic solutions to deliver quality outcomes and demonstrate awareness of asset management risks and actions to manage and mitigate these. And ensure your team understands their obligations to comply with records, information and knowledge managment requirements. To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Minimum tertiary qualifications in social services, health or humanities or related field and a significant experience working in the community/local government sector
  • Demonstrated experience in community development processes including sound knowledge of social justice principles and the role of local government in the provision of human services
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating social planning and/or strategic planning programs with a range of partners
  • Ability to recognise and critically assess social issues, investigate alternatives and to derive recommendations in response to community needs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level consultation and advocacy skills, including experience in community consultation and working with community groups and organisations and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrated project management and event experience including budget management and the management of casual staff and volunteers
  • Ability to produce work of a high quality within established time frames with minimal supervision and show independence and initiative in tasks and to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Current NSW Drivers License
  • Experience in preparing and administering grant and other funding opportunities
  • Knowledge of accessibility planning
  • Knowledge and/or experience in relating to special interest groups in the community
