About the role
This is a permanent, full time position working 35 hours per week that is based out of our Nowra Administration Building.

The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.

Duties
Reporting directly to the Senior Environmental Health Officer, the focus of this position is to:

  • Provide for the protection, promotion and improvement of the environment and public health and safety of the community by:

  • providing professional advice, delivering education and guidance
  • administer and enforce Acts and Regulations under various legislation and Council policies; and
  • working co-operatively with other Council divisions and state agencies to achieve improved environmental and public health outcomes

  • Investigation and enforcement activities for compliance with relevant environmental legislation such as the Protection of the Environment Operations Act and Regulations, eg. for air, noise, water pollution and waste dumping matters;
  • Investigate and respond to neighborhood complaints such as noise, air pollution, odours, overgrown vegetation, overland storm water disposal, hoarding and squalor, management of noise from aviaries & poultry.
  • Implement the NSW food legislation through compliance inspection and auditing, food handler education and enforcement of retail premises and temporary and mobile food premises

Skills & Experience
In order to be successful in the position, you will be/ possess:

  • Completing or completed Tertiary qualifications equivalent to Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health)
  • Demonstrated experience in relevant employment in local government or a relevant field of Environmental Health (Grade 11)
  • Current NSW WorkCover Construction Induction Certificate
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence
  • Proof of Australian residency or citizenship

This is a grade range position, therefore in accordance with qualifications, accreditation, experience and demonstrated skills, the prospective employee will be assessed as either Grade 9, 10 or 11.

Grade 9 – ($74,082 – $86,240)

Grade 10 - ($81,819 - $93,982)

Grade 11 – ($89,562 - $101,719)

A Merit list of suitable candidates will also be created from this recruitment for future opportunities
