The role:
As Environmental Sustainability Officer you will develop, implement, evaluate and monitor Council policies, management plans and actions relating to climate change, sustainability, coast, estuary and environmental management. You will engage and partner with other Council staff, government organisations and the community to develop and implement strategies relating to Environmental Sustainability. You will assist with ensuring Council meets its Legislative, Delivery and Operational Plans and Budgetary requirements and with the development, implementation and evaluation of Council’s Integrated Planning.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Degree in Environmental Science or a related field
  • An understanding of current environmental issues, particularly sustainability, and relevant legislation as it impacts on local government
  • Experience applying legislation which applies to local government relating to environmental management, in particular coast and estuary management
  • Project Management skills including preparation of funding applications, project budgeting and acquittal documentation
  • The proven ability to identify and secure project funding through grants, and in-kind contributions
  • The proven ability to work with government and non-government organisations including community groups to develop, implement and evaluate environmental projects and education programs
  • Class C Driver’s Licence.

About you:
You will have excellent communication and negotiation skills along with a passion for public health and environmental sustainability. Although not required, it would be beneficial to have basic experience with GIS mapping and/or experience applying the Protection of the Environment Operations Act and Regulations within local / state government.

 We offer:

  • Permanent full time, 35 hours per week
  • Annual salary from $80,454.40 to $95,388.80 (depending on qualifications, skills and experience)
