Natural Resources Officer

The Opportunity An exciting opportunity exists to join our multi-award-winning organisation as a Natural Resources Officer in our Strategic and Environmental Planning team. As a Natural Resources Officer, you will be one of the key environmental experts within Council, providing advice, coordinating projects and providing strategic direction with respect to our natural environment, with a particular focus on coastal and estuary management. Required skills & experience  To be successful in this role, you should possess tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science (or related discipline), with a focus on coastal and estuary management being desirable; demonstrated professional experience in a related field of work; practical knowledge of coastal and estuarine processes; demonstrated experience in community engagement and education programs; and experience providing coastal and estuarine management advice to Council and external proponents. You should also possess demonstrated superior communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to communicate to a broad range of audiences using suitable communication channels and techniques. Key accountabilities include 
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of Council’s Coastal Management Program in accordance with the NSW Government’s Coastal Management Framework.
  • Facilitate, implement and coordinate Council’s Water Quality Monitoring Program, rehabilitation projects and other identified matters.
  • Provide advice and education programmes regarding floodplain management, coastal and estuary management, and other natural resource matters, as required.
  • Source, prepare and submit relevant external funding grants/programmes to enable implementation of related Council programs and projects.
  • Promote and maintain positive working relationships between Council, landholders and government agencies.
