Town Planners

Our Development Assessment and Compliance team is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Town Planner to assist with the development application process managed by the Unit.

This is a permanent full-time role, working a 9 day fortnight, and offering flexibility for a great work/life balance. 

About the role:

  • Processes development applications and related matters in accordance with the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act.
  • Prepares LEP amendments, policies, Development Control Plans in a timely manner.
  • Responds to written and verbal enquiries.
  • Manages the Development Assessment process including recommending the application for approval/refusal and associated follow up processes.
  • Provides excellent customer service to our stakeholders, providing advice on environmental planning instruments and policy matters.

We are seeking:

  • Degree or Post-Graduate Town Planning qualification.
  • Demonstrated high-level competence and experience in the assessment of development applications whilst working within a government framework.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the assessment of development applications.
  • Well developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and handle conflicting deadlines.

Where it's located:

This position is based in Murwillumbah, and can be directed to work from any Council work site.

Essential:

1. Degree Town Planning or relevant post graduate Town Planning qualification.
2. Eligible for membership of Planning Institute of Australia.
3. Demonstrated high level competence in the processing of development applications within a local government framework.
4. Demonstrated experience in LEP and DCP preparation.
5. Demonstrated capacity to supervise staff.
6. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
7. Extensive knowledge of NSW planning legislation and regulation.
8. Demonstrated capacity to deal with sensitive development and planning matters.
9. Current Vehicle Licence - Car.
