We partner with CareerTrackers to provide internship opportunities for Indigenous students at university. Here is Paris Edwards' story who joined our practice through the CareerTrackers program in 2017.
"I am a Torres Strait Islander originating from the islands of Mabuiag, Erub and Moa where I spent the majority of my childhood. I completed my high school education in Cairns and moved to Sydney to study at the University of New South Wales.
I joined Colin Biggers & Paisley in December 2017 as a CareerTrackers intern on a 12 week summer internship. CareerTrackers is a non-profit organisation focused on placing indigenous university students into summer and winter internships with some of the largest organisations both nationwide and worldwide.
Following my internship, I was fortunate enough to be offered a position as a casual paralegal in the property and development team. I worked part-time whilst I was completing the last year and a half of my degree. In my role in the property and development team I've been involved in large scale developments, put and call option deeds, stream leasing and more recently in property disputes matters. I've gained invaluable insight into the legal profession which has been a new opportunity that I am grateful for.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Law and Arts in August 2019 and I recently finished my PLT. I've accepted an offer to work as a solicitor in the property and developments transaction team as well as the property disputes team. I am looking forward to a new chapter of my career at Colin Biggers & Paisley and I am excited for the future. My experience at Colin Biggers & Paisley is one of continued learning, support and encouragement."
