Description of Project Finance (Australia) team

Crédit Agricole CIB (CA-CIB) is the Corporate and Investment Banking arm of the Crédit Agricole Group, the world's #12 bank measured by Tier One Capital (The Banker, July 2020). CA-CIB provides support to clients in large international markets through its banking network in major countries in Europe, America, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. A key part of CA-CIB’s business is Project Finance (financing large scale projects in the energy, infrastructure and mining sectors), where it has for many years been a global leader, ranked 5th globally in 2020. In Australia the key focus has been on high profile projects designed to keep pace with population growth (including Melbourne Metro, Sydney Light Rail and new motorways) and support the energy transition (wind, solar, LNG). The Project Finance team in Australia operates across offices in Melbourne and Sydney and is led by the Head of Project Finance, Australia who is based in Sydney.

Main responsibilities and duties

The Trainee’s main role is to assist in deal execution, financial modelling, preparing marketing documents, research and industry papers, internal reports and portfolio administration. Much of the group’s work is carried out in individual deal teams comprised of 2-3 members of the combined Sydney/Melbourne Project Finance group. The Trainee will be supporting the Melbourne-based Managing Director on a day to day basis, although there will be extensive interaction with the other members of the broader team (based in Sydney) and in some cases on assignments led by members of the Sydney office.

Personal attributes

  • Academic qualifications in a finance related discipline essential
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with a good understanding of financial statements
  • Base level of proficiency in Excel, Word, Powerpoint
  • Ability to work in a small team and have the flexibility to multi-task.

Personal development

The Trainee would receive entry-level on the job training in financial modelling, in-house applications, report writing, risk analysis, banking compliance concepts and legal concepts.

Most of the work with the Sydney team members will be via telephone and email, however some of the on-the-job training will involve travel to the CA-CIB Sydney office.

Where relevant, the Trainee would have the opportunity to attend industry functions in Melbourne (IPFA, APLMA, FACCI), which will provide supplementary industry education and opportunities to network with other professionals in the financial and business community.
