Location Profile  

Stockdale Road Primary School is located in the city of Traralgon, the largest city in the Latrobe Valley and is approximately 160km east of Melbourne. The school is one of four government schools in Traralgon and has a steady enrolment of 405-475 students. During this time, the school's Student Family Occupation (SFO) and Student Family and Education (SFOE) indices have remained stable also.

The school operates with single cohort classes in Prep to Grade 2, 5 composite 3/4 & 5/6 grades and hold specialist classes in Art, PE, Paddock to Plate and Science. The school is resourced with a fulltime Principal, two assistant Principals, a full-time Wellbeing Officer and a part time Community Health Nurse and counsellor. There are 4 Learning Specialists all of who have classroom duties.  The school has Auslan as a second language.

To Support classrooms and the wellbeing team, the school also has an Allied Health Co-ordinator/Speech Therapist whose role is to support students and the staff with the implementation of supports and recommendations of outside Allied Health workers.

The school has embraced the guiding principles of Professional Learning Communities (PLC), which has involved all staff engaging in extensive professional learning. This professional learning has focused on understanding the guiding principles of Professional Learning Communities, learning by doing to develop an understanding of how to operate as an effective professional learning team, strengthening staff understanding of the curriculum and the development of Essential Learning Standards in the focus area of Mathematics. The school is building its teaching of literacy through the evidence based approach of `The Big 6'. Staff have been developing their understanding of Oral Language, Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency Vocabulary and Comprehension.

Students also have the opportunity to take on leadership roles within the school community. Student leadership roles include School Captains, Junior School Council and House Captains. Both their peers and staff are involved in the process for electing student leaders, with all elected students participating in a full day leadership program at the beginning of the school year.

The school wellbeing officer works in conjunction with network student support services staff, a range of community agencies and allied health professionals to provide individualised support for our students.

A probationary period may apply during the first year of employment and induction and support programs provided.

• The successful candidate must not be employed as a teacher by the Department at the time the advertised position is to commence.
