The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex plus (LGBTI+) Network was established by passionate staff who identify as LGBTI+, with support from workplace allies. They aspire to help champion change for LGBTI+ members of the department and the broader Canberra community.
The LGBTI+ Network aims to contribute to creating a more inclusive workplace, where LGBTI+ staff feel comfortable to bring their whole self to work. The LGBTI+ Network is a supportive, inclusive and safe network which welcomes all employees with no stereotypes, labels or judgement. The network meets to discuss ways in which it can work to raise awareness of LGBTI+ issues – both in the workplace and the broader community. The network also participates in national days that focus on the LGBTI+ community.
The role of the LGBTI+ Network includes:
- providing support to new and current departmental staff who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex
- raising awareness and increasing understanding of LGBTI+ issues through events and activities
- representing the views of LGBTI+ staff to inform the development and review of departmental policies, guides and procedures
- being an informal discussion forum where Finance employees can ask questions and seek information on LGBTI+ issues.
