The PM&C Graduate Program is a 12-month rapid development Program founded on flexibility and empowerment, positioning you to be a future leader in the Australian Public Service and make a meaningful impact on the Australian community through Government policies and priorities.

At PM&C, Graduates steer their career direction through unique ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ style rotations in up to four PM&C business areas to gain on the job experience. This is complemented by significant investment in your professional learning and development and networking opportunities.

What you’ll do:

PM&C’s Graduate Program offers hands on experience supporting the Prime Minister, the Cabinet, Portfolio Ministers, Assistant Ministers and senior PM&C leaders. PM&C Graduates will enter the program through one of our two streams:

Generalist Stream – is for those seeking to engage with diverse projects and learn the inner workings of government. You will offer advice and support on policies and initiatives that may include matters of social and domestic policy, national security, gender issues, economics and governance; or emerging Government priorities.

To excel in the Generalist Stream, your best attribute will be your thirst for knowledge, your open-mind and motivation to seek new opportunities and take in as much as you can. You will be excited about change and your goal is to absorb all that there is to know.

You will be provided the opportunity to experience various areas of the department before determining which area you will seek to permanently work in after the Program.

Corporate/Government Stream – is for those who seek and value a range of skills relevant to PM&C’s corporate enabling functions and our Government Division which supports the efficient operation of the Government.

Corporate/Government delivers a broad range of services from human resources, financial management, communications, information technology, project management and internal consulting, legal policy, security, procurement, risk and governance, and ministerial and parliamentary services. Experience will build foundational skills and a good understanding of how government operates, as well as an opportunity to innovate and enable the broader department to deliver outcomes.

You will be provided the opportunity to complete multiple rotations in Corporate and Governance Group and a rotation in one of PM&C policy areas to gain first hand understanding of the business. You will be placed within the corporate stream on successful completion of the program.

NOTE- This is a highly competitive Graduate program and if you are not offered a position on the Program, your skills and expertise may still be utilised elsewhere within the department at the APS 3 level. You may be offered an APS 3 role directly by one of our business areas, where you will have the opportunity to pursue learning, development and career progression at your own pace.

This position has limited contact with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and service providers, but is still required to have the capacity and willingness to further develop these skills. You will require capacity to attain cultural competency, including:

understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
willingness and commitment to continue to develop cultural competency.
