2023 Nearmap Graduate Program – AI Systems (Machine Learning)

As a Nearmap Graduate in the AI Systems team, you are setting yourself on the path to become a Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer. You will be embedded in the AI Systems team, and may work in a variety of roles to learn best practices in the field in an experienced team – model training, data pipelines, software engineering practices, exploratory data analysis, algorithmic and statistical data testing, human expert labelling, ML Ops practices, GPU and other compute on clusters of hundreds of machines, feedback loops and model monitoring, and everything necessary to turn core deep learning based R&D into real world machine learning based products.  

You will learn technologies, tools and languages including python, Kubernetes, AWS, pytorch, geopandas, and several state of the art ML vendor systems. 

At Nearmap we want to fully equip you as a graduate engineer with the knowledge and skills to build your career by offering you a comprehensive 18 month development program.  

You will experience a program that offers: 

  • An 18 month program with three rotations through different groups within AI Systems – AI Model Systems, AI Model R&D, and AI Output Systems, before you settle into your permanent role. 
  • Support by an Online Learning Platform. 
  • The support of exceptional coaches, mentors, and leaders.  

We’re looking for motivated graduates who have: 

  • A passion for technology and emerging technologies – with python and statistics/machine learning experience considered most useful. 
  • A passion for learning and willingness to push past their personal and professional limits, through exceptional academic grades, or highly compelling side projects. 
  • Excellent communication skills and flexibility are a must, as we operate in a dynamic work environment building complex, highly coupled systems. 
  • Strong relationship building and teamwork skills (demonstrated through part time/casual work). 
  • Flexible attitude and ability to work with various people across the organisation. 
  • Have a strong customer focus and customer centric approach to work outcomes. 

You will have completed a degree or major in Software Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Information Technology, Mechatronics, Data Analytics, Mech/Elec Engineering, numerical sciences or similar. We are also considering candidates with a little more experience for junior roles. 

Applying for our Graduate Program 

Applications for our 2023 Graduate Program are now open. Before applying for the program, please ensure you meet our eligibility requirements. You must be:

  • An Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident at the time of submitting this application 
  • You must have completed your undergraduate or postgraduate degree within the last three years of the program start date (i.e. 2021, 2022 or January 2023) 
  • You must be eligible to commence full time employment in February 2023. 
  • You must be willing to be based in Sydney. 
  • Have a distinction or high distinction GPA. 

There are typically four stages to making an application: 

  • Complete the application. Please upload your cover letter (career motivations, extracurricular activities, interests etc.), CV and a current university transcript as ONE PDF document.
  • Cognitive ability assessments (verbal, numerical and logical reasoning) and/or situational assessments (work style preferences and areas for development).
  • Interview day where you’ll come into the office and meet some of the team. We’ll learn more about you but more importantly, you’ll develop your understanding of Nearmap and our culture.
