Graduate Actuarial Analyst

Your Impact

As an Actuarial Analyst your new role will see you support the Actuarial leadership team in a wide range of actuarial modelling and advice provided to the nib Group. This includes determining assumptions for insurance liability valuations, maintaining detailed forecast models of gross profit used for product pricing and budgeting, performing analysis for new product design and pricing, assisting in the evaluation of business cases for new initiatives, performing stochastic modelling to assess internal capital requirements, and various ad-hoc analysis into the financial performance of the product range.

Your Team

The nib Actuarial team supports the nib Group by providing sound actuarial advice, financial modelling and review of material business decisions. Our actuaries are highly valued by the business and have a wide range of responsibility and input into the financial management of all our insurance segments. We are highly collaborative team who ensures that our analysts have a full range of exposure to all actuarial and machine learning modelling performed at nib. The role will see you quickly develop the commercial acumen and industry knowledge to help you succeed at nib.

Your Background 

With the desire and curiosity to learn and grow, you consider yourself someone who possess strong problem-solving skills and a high attention to detail. As a new or recent graduate, relevant tertiary qualification in Actuarial studies, Mathematics, Statistics or proven skills in a similar Actuarial Analyst role will ensure you are well placed for success in this role. Progression towards Associateship or Fellowship qualification of the IAA or equivalent actuarial body is desirable. 

You will also need:  

  • Strong financial modelling and Microsoft Excel skills
  • Proficiency or a desire to develop in SAS and R
  • A passion for innovation and continuous development of our internal modelling methodologies, including increasing the adoption of machine learning techniques
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team to solve key business problems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate your ideas and analysis with key stakeholder groups across the organisation
