We believe in loving what we do: not because it's easy, but because it's challenging, and in facing those challenges we find ways to succeed.
Today’s engineers are moving away from more traditional roles and exploring how they can use their skills and knowledge to make the world a better place and help the most disadvantaged.
Our Engineering Entrepreneur Internship will give you the industry exposure and experience that you need and a range of additional skills that employers are looking for. These range from feasibility assessments, implementation and iteration of environmental sustainability systems, research and testing of fuel alternatives. You will develop a wealth of critical skills that enhance your ability to understand complex issues and provide genuine solutions for local communities, such as interdisciplinary collaboration and cross-cultural engagement, leadership, and empathy-driven research methodologies.
On an Internship with Project Everest Ventures, you’ll be working with a team on the development of one of our social ventures overseas in your university break. Our Ventures are focused on building sustainable communities with many impactful development projects, with an emphasis on Human-Centred methodologies, including Design Thinking and Lean business processes.
Ventures that you could be working on include:
- Solar Consulting & Energy Infrastructure, which aim to enable off-the-grid, household and business access to reliable and efficient alternative energy through small scale solutions.
- Sustainable Fuel Consulting focuses on developing a clean cook stove made from recycled materials that aims to reduce biomass usage by 50% to improve respiratory health, and resource-efficient cooking.
- DArT (AgTech Assessment); enabling food security and economic empowerment across the agricultural supply chain by exploring the integration of seed genotyping and management technology.
What can you expect from a Project Everest Internship?
- You’ll be engaging directly with the local community.
In order to ensure our ventures are providing genuine impact and solving real issues, we work closely with members of the local community running workshops and focus groups, prototyping and feedback sessions, conducting surveys and interviewing, and distributing the socially beneficial products and services.
- Every day is different.
Depending on what stage your venture is at during your internship, you could be doing completely different activities each day. If you’re surveying a local community member one day, you could be meeting with a CEO the next. It’s definitely not your traditional Engineering internship.
- You will be contributing towards achieving a sustainable impact.
Whilst you won’t necessarily be creating social change every day, you’ll be part of building and testing a product or service that is needed, sustainable and scalable so that it can be rolled out to community members and change lives.
- It will be challenging.
Building a start-up has its fair share of challenges, and when you’re working in a developing country with limited resources these are magnified…but that’s what makes the wins and subsequent social impact all that much sweeter in the end!
- You’ll be building a competitive edge as a future Engineering graduate.
Yes, you’ll be applying the skills from your degree to a new context, however you’ll be gaining experiences that are beyond the scope of your discipline. Imagine being able to say yes to having experience in the start-up space, international development, cross-cultural communication, social enterprise, lean business principles, and design thinking methodologies... and you haven’t even graduated yet. That’s one way to differentiate yourself as a Engineering student, that’s for sure.
Who are we looking for?
If you're looking for voluntourism or an opportunity to add a line to your resume, then this is not for you. If you are committed to creating social change, sustainable social enterprises and achieving determined sustainability development goals across the globe, then we want to hear from you.
We are seeking passionate, socially-minded, and hard-working people to undertake our Internships, with the potential for further leadership and business training beyond. Be part of the social change and apply for your place now.
This is not a paid role. It is a fee-paying program.
There is no guarantee of employment upon completion of your internship.
