About the Role

Operating from within Surveying Services, you will be involved in maintaining the cadastral integrity of the State.

You will be involved in investigating, and providing advice on surveying matters, undertaking field surveys on behalf of the Department.

This work contributes to the States’ geodetic infrastructure, supporting the integration of spatial data in the Department of Resources environment.

Your knowledge, skills and attributes

We’ll assess your merit for this role by looking at what you’ve done previously – the knowledge, skills and attributes you can bring to the role, plus your potential for development, and your personal qualities. This position requires:

  • Knowledge in the field of surveying
  • Experience in identifying problems and possible solutions including research, comprehension and the critical evaluation of relevant technical information and data.

Key duties and accountabilities

  • Participate in multidisciplinary project teams across the State, including participation in cadastral surveys, geodetic and control surveys and in field campaigns such as surveying support to Indigenous Land Use Agreement implementation and the Cape York Peninsula Tenure Resolution program.
  • Assist in the maintaining the cadastral integrity of Queensland through the survey plan examination function, including plan auditing, field inspections and provision of advice.
  • Process survey instrument calibrations, reduction of observations and the re-measurement of EDM bases for calibration purposes.
  • Maintain and update Departmental databases for survey and cadastral information.
  • Operate effectively within a team environment, assist in setting project goals and working with others to ensure targets are met.
  • Research and provide advice on current and future surveying technology, techniques & legislation.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
  • You may be required to drive a motor vehicle.
  • Other duties as directed and required.

Specific role requirements

Mandatory requirements:

  • Have completed a bachelor’s degree or higher in the last two years in the field of Surveying or Spatial Sciences
  • Registration as a Surveying Graduate with Surveyors Board of Queensland (or the ability to become registered in Queensland upon completion of the degree or via the Surveyors Board of Queensland mutual recognition framework) with the desire to become registered as a Cadastral Surveyor in the future.
  • Be able to work in remote locations (away from home) for short periods of time.
  • Drivers’ License (manual (class C) preferred)
  • Be an Australian Citizen, New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident and have permission, under Commonwealth law, to work in Australia.
  • Criminal history and employment check may be completed as part of the recruitment process.  
  • All staff are required to be fully vaccinated. You are considered to be fully vaccinated if you have had the required two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine. It does not include a booster­­­. Acceptable evidence of vaccination must be provided. If you have a recognised medical contraindication to COVID-19 vaccines, please speak with the panel chair to discuss your circumstances and available options.
