Toll

Toll

Name: Catherine Glynn
Degree: Bachelor of Science
Previous Rotations: Express Services, Shipping and Toll City Singapore.
Current Rotation: Group Transformation

Why did you choose Toll?

After finishing university, I was looking for a Graduate Program that would give me exposure to many areas of the business. Toll’s Graduate Program is coordinated so that we rotate through business units, allowing us to develop a comprehensive understanding of our business and its operations. This, along with working in a dynamic and fast paced industry appealed to me.

What’s the coolest thing about your job?

The coolest thing about my job is the exposure and opportunities I am given whilst being a Graduate. As Graduates, we are given lots of responsibility in the outcome of projects and are involved in decisions for the business, allowing us to collaborate with senior leaders. There have also been many opportunities to experience some of Toll’s specialised equipment, which helps us efficiently transport freight to many customers. While on my rotation within Toll Shipping, I was able to attend the birthing of Toll’s newest vessels; the biggest cargo carriers across the Bass Strait. Other Graduates have also had the opportunity to sit in the belly of the 737 and fly in our specialised helicopters.

What are some of the challenges of your job?

Initially, I found the logistics lingo challenging. With no background in transport, I found sometimes I was taking time to grasp tasks, with many acronyms used daily across the business. The tempo, at times, can also be quite fast paced. Given the nature of the industry, challenges and demands are constantly arising, with a need for a quick but efficient solution so that we can resolve any of our customers needs.

Toll

Name: Phillip Dang
Degree: Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours)/Bachelor of Business (Management)
Previous Rotations: Newell Distribution Centre, Intermodal & Specialised Services: Operational Excellence, Group Operational Services (GOS) Equipment
Current Rotation: GOS Optimisation

Why did you choose Toll?

I chose Toll because I wanted to work for a global company in a fast-paced industry. I was seeking a role that would give me exposure to a broad range of working environments across different sectors. Through my rotations I have had experiences in warehousing, transport, equipment monitoring and maintenance, and optimisation. This has helped me to develop a holistic understanding of Toll’s operations whilst also expanding and developing my own personal skillset.

What’s the coolest thing about your job?

The coolest part about my job is the variety that it offers. I like to be able to spend time in environments other than the office. I’ve had great opportunities where I’ve worked on the warehouse floor, visited manufacturer sites, and other Toll sites to work and learn in new settings. The variety means that work is always interesting and it’s great to be able to see firsthand all the different industries that Toll is involved in.

What are some of the challenges of your job?

One of the challenges of the job is working in a company that is currently in the midst of transformation. Toll is undergoing a lot of changes to continuously improve, so there are always exciting new projects to work on. This often means that it can be hard to know where to start with some projects, and how to gather all the information required, but it definitely adds to the feeling of accomplishment when the project is successfully completed.
