About Whitehaven Coal
Whitehaven Coal is an important player in Australia’s only emerging high-quality coal basin. We help power developed and emerging economies in Asia where there is strong and growing demand for our product, particularly for use in high-efficiency, low-emissions coal-fired power stations. With 20 years of industry experience we have developed a growing reputation for excellence in project delivery and safe, efficient and environmentally responsible operations.
About The Role – Graduate Mining Engineers
At Whitehaven, we are looking to grow and develop our future leaders. This starts with you!
Our two-year development program is intended to give you a breadth of experience across our sites and functions. You will gain practical skills and training from both on-the-job learning experiences and formal development sessions. This is a rare opportunity to rotate through both underground and open cut operations before selecting which area you are interested in pursuing for your permanent post-program role.
The program is divided across three rotations (two x 6 month rotations & one x 12 month rotation). These rotations are residentially based in the Gunnedah and Narrabri region, with the exception of some functional rotations based in our Sydney and Newcastle offices. Our key operational sites include:
- Maules Creek
- Werris Creek
- Rehabilitation sites (including Sunnyside & Rocglen)
What we offer
Relocation & accommodation
We assist by providing camp accommodation in the region for your first 6 months, after this Whitehaven will cover your relocation to the region. At the end of the program, you will be offered a permanent role.
Learning and Development
We provide learning and development opportunities for all graduates tailored to your career trajectory. This includes the relevant technical skills training that you will complete as well as personal development & mentoring to support you in meeting your true potential.
Be out and about
You’ll spend your first year out in the field getting your hands dirty, operating machinery and learning on the job. No two days are the same as you’ll gain a deep understanding into how a mine operates. During your first year you will be placed at two different sites or teams as you begin to build your understanding of the business.
Alignment with Statutory Qualifications
The Engineering Stream is aligned with statutory qualifications through the NSW Resources Regulator that ensure you are job ready at the end of the program. These qualifications include:
- Electrical Engineer (Open Cut & Underground)
- Mechanical Engineer
- Open Cut Examiner
- Mining Engineer
