About the Program
The Whitehaven Coal Graduate Program is an exciting two-year development program intended to grow and develop our future leaders. You’ll gain practical skills and training from both on-the-job learning experiences and formal development sessions. To ensure a breadth of experience, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the success of a range of our sites and offices through the rotation program.
The program is based on rotations to give you the best understanding of our business possible. These rotations are residentially based in the Gunnedah and Narrabri region in NSW, except for some functional rotations which are based in our Sydney and Newcastle offices. Our key operational sites include:
- Maules Creek Open Cut
- Narrabri Underground
- Tarrawonga Open Cut
What we offer
Relocation & accommodation
We assist by providing accommodation in the region for your first 3 months, after this Whitehaven will cover your relocation to the region.
Learning and Development
We provide learning and development opportunities for all graduates tailored to your career trajectory. This includes the relevant technical skills training that you will complete as well as personal development & mentoring to support you in meeting your true potential.
Variety
You’ll spend your first year out in the field getting your hands dirty, operating machinery and learning on the job. No two days are the same as you’ll gain a deep understanding into how a mine operates. During your first year you will be placed at two different sites or teams as you begin to build your understanding of the business.

We are looking for graduates who are adaptable, keen to learn, resilient and want to build a rewarding career in mining. You must be prepared to relocate to the local area and share a passion for our values of safety, teamwork, respect integrity and excellence.
We are seeking applications from recent or soon to be graduates that have completed their course in the last 3 years (2021-2023). For this role as an Electrical Engineering graduate, you will need a tertiary qualification that will likely be in one of the following disciplines:
