Employee Profiles

Wipro

Christopher Littlewood

I studied a Bachelor of Information Technology majoring in Computer Science at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. I minored in Mobile Application Development and in Networks and Security. After being approached by a recruiter for Wipro on LinkedIn, I did some research on the company and I discovered that Wipro was on the forefront of new and exciting technologies which was exactly where I wanted to be.

The past four months have been fantastic. I have enjoyed being included in a friendly and professional work environment where I have been encouraged to grow and expand my knowledge. Since joining WIpro I have learned many useful skills that I feel will come in handy throughout my career.

One of the main reasons I enjoy working for Wipro is that the company puts trust in its employees to do their jobs independently, correctly and in a timely fashion. I love that I do not have anyone breathing down my neck but at the same time, there is always someone I can turn to if I am struggling with something.

Jack

Where and what did you study

I received my Bachelor of Information Technology at Macquarie University, where I majored in Business Analysis and Information Systems.

Why did you join Wipro

I joined Wipro in January 2020, as a part of one of their graduate intakes. I was very excited to join, due to Wipro being a large, multinational business, as well as the high praise the company received when I consulted a family friend who has worked in the industry for many years. Knowing I was a part of a graduate intake made the leap into my first professional job a lot less daunting, knowing I'd be going through the journey with many people in the same situation.

What Business Unit did you start in and some of the cool/great work that the business does

Due to my degree, I received a junior business analyst position in one of Wipro's government projects. It wasn't too long later that I realised that university can only teach you so much, as I was still learning so much more on the job. I have recently become a change coordinator for our stream within the project, and I'm very eager to learn more skills in this area and see where it takes me.

How’s your experience of working at Wipro

It's been very exciting to see how a large project works, and being able to use my skills to add value and contribute to my team. It may seem silly, but I remember sitting in on my first ever conference call being an exhilarating experience, but I've been told it loses that affect after a few years of daily meetings. Regardless, I'm looking forward to continuing to grow my skills and career in the company, and can't wait to see what the future holds.

Wipro

Sneha

I completed my bachelor’s degree in information science and technology and started my career at Wipro as IT graduate engineer in January 2020. I always wanted to build my career in the IT industry and Wipro is the perfect platform to achieve my goals.

Wipro is a company which I have known since my childhood since many of my relatives and friends worked or are still working there. It is a well-organised, collaborative and globally established IT company. For me, the company is the fusion of good work culture, innovation, growth prospects and opportunities.

In the first 6 weeks I was trained on SAP Basis and the training was very beneficial since it is helping me in my current role. Along with the technical course we were also given information about the company’s policies, technologies and infrastructure.

After the initial training period I was assigned to AMS (Application management support) at one of our clients’ location. My current responsibility is metering, which is one of the modules in SAP ISU. My team is responsible for providing resolutions to incidents, service requests and change requests. I find it very exciting to resolve new issues which we receive from SAP users.

I feel lucky to work for a company like WIPRO, where you get a platform to follow your interest and expand your knowledge. I met many people who have been working for WIPRO for more than 25 years which shows that Wipro really cares about their employees. WIPRO provides encouragement, diverse workforce, freedom to share our opinions and opportunities to explore different domains. I believe my journey with Wipro will be memorable and I see myself working here for a long time with lot of enthusiasm.

Ezgi Ozturk

In simple words please tell us what you do? What do you like the most about your job profile?

I have been hired as a Graduate Project Engineer, but I have also had the opportunity to work as a Security Analyst at Wipro. Currently I am learning new skills through training, watching tutorials on Udemy relating to different technologies and practicing.

Why did you consider interning/starting your career with Wipro?

The reason as to why I wanted to work for Wipro is because Wipro provides constant growth and development by promoting continuous learning. Employees have the opportunity to work with various stakeholders and transition into another role within the company which is a great advantage.

How did your experience at Wipro help you prepare for future?

Ever since I have started working at Wipro, I have developed self-confidence and achieved a positive mindset. Wipro provides hands-on training which helped me develop non-technical skills such as leadership, collaboration and communication skills as well as technical skills such as data analysis, project management, new programming languages and many more which have all aided in reaching my potential and achieving great growth and development.

One memorable moment at Wipro

My memorable moment at Wipro was the first day I started working, I immediately felt like I was already part of the work family, as everyone was friendly, understanding and welcoming. Due to COVID 19 restrictions we are now working from home however I miss working in the office and interacting with my team-mates as well as making new friends at work.

What is it that you like the best about Wipro’s work culture and environment?

Wipro is a very great place to work as it cultivates a culture of belonging. Wipro encourages and motivates individuals to achieve their goals and provides perfect working conditions. I like that Wipro provides an inclusive and diverse work environment as well as focuses on achieving gender equality in the workplace.

A Day in the Life

The company I am contracting for is Optus and I am responsible for testing activities for the My Optus App that have been developed by my team.

I am currently responsible for the initiatives that have been developed by my team. A day in the life of a tester could be will always start with a stand-up meeting with my team, if I have any features or enhancements assigned to me I will test these and write up my observations in the corresponding Jira Ticket. I will also add any screenshots required. I may need to clarify some items, this could be with a UX designer, the Product Owner, or the developer. If our feature or enhancement will be released into production I will create a Test Summary Report which includes the name/s of people who tested, the environment configuration used, the jira tickets tested with pass/fail status and the test cases that were tested as part of these tickets. Also we need ensure that any defects are included.

I also need to ensure that I automate the initiatives that have already been developed and released in production. Automation work is usually done when I have time or am blocked on other testing. E.g. Environment configuration not working etc. This helps avoid manual testing

An interesting detail is that you know what is happening at Optus before anyone else does!

I enjoy the testing because I can notice a bug which can fixed before being released to production or just see how the functionality works and it's amazing that I may be able to make someone’s life a little bit easier

I don’t work on weekend unless asked and ensure that I log off at a reasonable hour because I believe in having a work-life balance. A limitation of my testing job would be timelines as we release an app every three weeks. I get three days to test Front end and three days to test backend and sometimes this is not enough because of how big the feature is. If you have a high attention to detail, love finding bugs or things wrong with an app, or coding then I would say that testing is for you because at one time or another you will be doing these things.

I love my team and I am grateful to them because I had to learn how to do my job entirely online. I love that the team is understanding, willing to help me with anything, understanding of the challenges that I may be facing or just wiling to explain to me what the feature is so that I can do my job effectively.

Diversity & Inclusion

Inclusion is a “way of life” at Wipro. We achieve this by integrating diversity into our work life every day and encouraging all Wiproites to be their authentic selves all the time.

At Wipro, our inclusion and diversity efforts focus on nine key pillars:

  • Gender Inclusion
  • Disability Inclusion
  • LGBTQ+ Inclusion
  • Race & Ethnicity
  • Supplier Diversity
  • Communities
  • Diversity of Thought
  • Nationality
  • Generational Diversity

While there are a variety of goals and programs within each of these areas, these pillars shape our efforts on a day-to-day basis. We strive to create a nurturing environment that creates a sense of belonging for everyone on our team.

A few of the ways we are enacting these principles daily are:

  • Women of Wipro (WoW) – This enables women at any level to build a unique training and mentoring program appropriate for their career stage.
  • WoW Mom – A program that aims to support new mothers as they transition back to the workplace after maternity leave.
  • CREATE – Our disability inclusion framework works to eliminate structural or attitudinal barriers while ensuring the access to accessible training, mentorship programs and equitable workplaces.
  • PRIDE – Our LGBTQ+ inclusion framework strives to review and adapt existing policies to eliminate discrimination and has also formed an employee resource group to encourage awareness and acceptance across business lines.
  • Black Alliance – The U.S. based Black Alliance focus on creating a more diverse workplace by retaining and recruiting exceptional black and African American talent.

We are also focused on encouraging each and every one of us to “Break the Bias.” Implicit or unconscious bias happens to all of us. The goal is to recognize this and work to break the habit. To facilitate this, all Wipro employees are encouraged to take our “Unconscious Bias E-learning Module” which helps employees understand unconscious bias and how to break it!
