Darwin Information Technology Graduate Jobs
Major City: Darwin
Best IT schools: Charles Darwin University
High demand for: telecommunications, support technicians
The Northern Territory’s ICT market is the smallest in Australia, containing around 1% of Australia’s total employment opportunities in this industry. As of 2012, less than 3000 people worked in the industry, and job growth was 0.2% (the lowest in Australia). Most of the market is made up of telecommunications workers, support technicians, database and systems administrators and security specialists. The miniscule state of the ICT market is partly due to already small and declining rate of students choosing to study ICT at university, and the fact that 30% of NT ICT workers are expected to retire by 2022. Less than 5% of the ICT market is composed of workers under 30. This means that employment opportunities are extremely thin on the ground for graduates in the Northern Territory.
