Engineering has always been my way of contributing tangibly to the world around me.
So when I came across the NSW Government Graduate Program, I was excited that I could be directly involved in shaping the public infrastructure of NSW.
I was excited for the opportunity to be working on and delivering projects for the community and seeing the visible impact of those projects. Plus, having an employer whose values and objectives match mine makes for a great experience at work.
Currently in my role as a graduate with Health Infrastructure, I have the opportunity to give back to the community in a significant capacity. I am part of various projects like working on hospital upgrades that directly affect community health and wellbeing. I am part of a team that takes the residents and Local Health Districts forward on the journey as engaged stakeholders and helps them shape the new resources being built for them.
Delivering projects that cater to local needs is a very satisfying feeling and ties in a greater sense of purpose to the work we do every day. The teams also encourage diversity of thinking and varying perspectives, which is a welcoming environment to grow and learn as a woman in STEM.
The Program offers a wide range of experiences and opportunities to new professionals. Support from mentors, peers and senior staff helps graduates find their feet in their placements and explore various aspects of the NSW Government. The development component run by Engineers Australia is an added bonus. This dedicated program equips graduates with the tools and skills necessary to be successful in the workplace as a budding professional engineer.
I would recommend that students nearing the end of their degree get to know the application process early and apply to the Program before the deadline. The journey you unlock greatly adds to your skills and gives you a unique chance to serve the people of NSW!
