Meet our Graduates
AMP Capital Graduate 2020
Bachelor of Marketing and Media from Macquarie University
When I graduated from university, I didn’t want to pigeon hole myself in any particular role. The rotations in the Graduate Program at AMP let me test out different parts of the business that I was interested in until I was confident that I knew where I wanted to work more permanently. At first, I was interested in the flexibility that offered, later I realised that the experience in different rotations also gives you a unique understanding of the business and how that fits together. This is extremely valuable moving into any permanent role, and the network you build up along the way makes that a smoother process.
Technology Gradate 2020
Bachelor of Commerce-International Business and Decision Science from Macquarie University
Prior to joining AMP, I was looking for an opportunity which would allow me to explore my interests in Technology because I wasn’t sure which area of Tech I’d like to pursue. Since joining the program, I have been able to do that, and more.
The program has since offered a wide range of rotations across multiple areas of the business including in Digital, Cyber Security, Data, Cloud, and Automation. This has enabled me to gain exposure to diverse programs of work where I have been able to take ownership and really contribute in a meaningful way.
Financial Services Graduate 2021
Bachelor of Commerce (Major in Financial Economics) and Bachelor of Information System from the University of New South Wales
In a nutshell, my experience at AMP in the Financial Services stream has been awesome. I was attracted to this stream due to its broad rotation offering, which enables one to travel across the value chain and gain a diverse understanding across AMPA and the broader financial system. To this end, I have found that everyone I have met has been incredibly willing to share knowledge and to offer opportunities to contribute on a broad range of projects. I continually have the chance to learn how the different business areas fit together in terms of operations and value to our clients and broader society. Most importantly for me, I have had opportunity right from the start to own my role, hold a stake in the projects I contribute to, and tangibly increase both my technical and soft skill set. The people I work with, the learning opportunities, and the actual work itself, have made my time at AMP an illuminating experience so far.
Accounting & Finance Graduate 2021
Bachelor of Applied Finance/Bachelor of Commerce (Professional Accounting) from Macquarie University
I chose AMP’s Graduate Program because I recognised the need to rotate and explore multiple business areas and functions and get a sense of the diversity in teams across this prestigious financial services institution. Some of these areas include Group Planning and Performance, Internal Audit and Statutory reporting, alongside electives to your own liking. Graduating out of University, it can be daunting putting your finger on a single area to specialise in considering the broad financial service environment, and choosing this program allows me to personalise my path to my dream career. There is an ongoing investment in the graduates and this is something that has motivated me to allow myself to exit my comfort zone and accrue professional and personal development.
Enterprise Risk Management Graduate 2021
Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Hons) and Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from the University of Sydney
I decided to move from a role in Construction Engineering to Financial Services with AMP in early 2021. After completing my degree, I always wanted to pursue my passion for finance that I developed at Uni. AMP was a great choice for me because of the different but still complementary businesses that the operate within Australia’s most well-known conglomerate. The prospect of getting experience in a bunch of different business models was super exciting – which would help me then decide on what kind of career to pursue within the finance sector. The ERM stream was a great choice given AMPs recent uplift in the space and focus on risk management in financial services generally. Another positive of going through ERM, a Group Functions stream, was to get a holistic view of the business units before specialising in a specific Business Unit. The grad program itself is very smooth and you are looked after from Day 1 which helps with the daunting prospect of starting life in a corporate company – had heard many good things from alumni I knew from various places and these positive comments were all reinforced by my experiences in the process!
Meet our Alumni
Technology Graduate Alumni 2013
Bachelor of Information Systems from the University of Wollongong
Current role: Platform Owner
When I started the AMP graduate program, I wasn’t sure where I wanted to take my long-term career or where I saw myself in 5 years. The program was great as it allowed me to rotate into several different teams and business areas across AMP. It helped me to be clearer on what I wanted coming out of the program. My first role out of the Grad program was a Technical Business Analyst and from there I’ve been fortunate to move into a number of opportunities in management roles. In these roles I manage projects delivery but also get to develop and mentor others, particularly graduates in the current program.
Technology Graduate Alumni 2017
Bachelor of Mathematics (Advanced) majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Sydney
Current role: Threat Intel Specialist
Starting in the AMP graduate program, I was given a lot of opportunity to move around different technology teams and see how different parts of the business operate. I was able to own pieces of my own work end to end and see real results. When I started at AMP, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do longer term, but the graduate program was integral in helping me work that out. I rotated into the Cyber Security team in my last rotation and have been there ever since. I’ve been able to progress and been given opportunities to grow and improve constantly. Without the graduate program, I don’t think I would’ve found a career that I’m so passionate about, in cyber.
Legal Graduate Alumni 2019
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) from the University of New South Wales
Current role: Legal Counsel, Financial Services Legal
The AMP Legal Graduate Program gave me the unique opportunity to kickstart my career in a very experienced inhouse legal team. In university, I was looking for a role that would allow me to develop both my commercial acumen whilst allowing me to build my career as a lawyer – and the legal graduate program here at AMP was perfect for that. Through the program, I was able to develop strong legal expertise in financial services and corporate law. It also helped me recognise and develop my strengths across multiple different legal areas. I was always encouraged to push myself beyond my comfort zone with a strong support network of mentors, managers and fellow graduates supporting me every step of the way.
Accounting & Finance Graduate Alumni 2013
Bachelor of Accounting (Major in Accounting and Finance) from the University of Technology Sydney and Chartered Accountant Australia & New Zealand
Current role: Head of CFO Office
Starting out on the graduate program in 2013 gave me the opportunity to learn how businesses run and operate while also applying university concepts in a practical on the job manner. I started my graduate experience rotating through Management Reporting and Statutory Reporting. These rotations were great to understand the key drivers of a business, application of accounting standards and concepts and marrying those with collaborating across different divisions, teams and stakeholder groups. Being a graduate at AMP meant that I was able to really build a strong foundational base by which to leverage and continue to build upon.
Since the graduate program I have been fortunate enough to spend time working in strategic planning developing AMP’s overall multi year financial plan, portfolio strategy and analysing the performance of our business lines we own and operate as well as working in Group Strategy working on contextualising AMP’s performance against competitors in the market. All of these roles have required me to leverage my core knowledge developed on the graduate program and learn additional skills necessary to create compelling narratives.
Currently I am working as the Head of Office to the Group CFO which continues to provide me opportunities to develop my career beyond technical capabilities and skills, but to develop as a leader within the business. The role continues to stretch me with the breadth of work. From working on developing a people and communications strategy for the function, the effective governance and management of Board and leadership team meetings and supporting the CFO with investor queries and questions. No two days are ever the same!
