About the Opportunity

The Graduate Engineer role at Parkes Shire Council is a dynamic opportunity for a recent engineering graduate to contribute to the successful delivery of Council's infrastructure projects. 

As a Graduate Engineer, you will be responsible for collaborating with the design engineer on estimating and contract administration, providing engineering design and advice to meet industry standards, and actively addressing traffic impacts on local and regional road networks. The role also involves ensuring timely customer responses, and supporting NHVR permit reviews.

Essential Criteria

To be successful in this position you will need to have: 

  • Degree qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline OR currently studying a degree in a relevant engineering discipline and are close to completion.  
  • Sound knowledge of engineering standards relating to road and drainage construction and maintenance activities. 
  • Solid communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to achieve the best outcome.
  • Solid written communication skills and demonstrated ability to prepare a wide range of communication materials, including reports, correspondence and other corporate documents. 
  • Excellent standard of IT literacy and advanced computer and software skills including proficiency in Microsoft 365 suite of applications.
  • Current and maintained Drivers Licence.
  • SafeWork NSW Construction Induction (White Card).

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in the use of GIS and/or AutoCAD software.
  • Traffic Control Certification.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Sound project management skills and ability to plan, prioritise and execute multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of the role, functions, and responsibilities of Local Government.

Remuneration and Benefits

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment.

The role has been evaluated as being a Grade 13 of Council's salary structure, with an additional 3.5% Civil Liability Allowance payable in accordance with Award provisions.  This role offers an attractive salary range from $81,000 to $93,000 (including Civil Liability Allowance) with an additional 11.5% superannuation.  Starting salary to be determined dependent upon the qualifications and experience of successful applicant

  • A pre-employment physical examination (at Council's expense), including a hearing and drug and alcohol test

  • Undertake any other applicable screening that may be relevant to the role
  • Council may also check authenticity of certificates and qualifications
