Deloitte will be working with WorldPride in a variety of areas, including digital and the role of technology in LGBTQI+ inclusion. Challenging the laws of GRAVITY

Deloitte is helping to activate the space ecosystem and support Australia’s civil space priority to inspire the nation’s use of space technology and capability. One initiative we’ve actively participated in is the GRAVITY Challenge. This is a global technology innovation program for students, universities and entrepreneurs enabling them to collaborate with corporate and government organisations in the design and development of solutions to real, high-value industry, social and environmental problems using space data and capability. Piloted in Australia, the program is now operating globally in more than ten countries and boasts more than 300 world-class innovation teams from the space sector. GRAVITY Challenge has addressed more than 25 challenges, mostly aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals including climate action; ocean sustainability; protecting and restoring terrestrial ecosystems; sustainable cities and communities; affordable and clean energy; and building resilient infrastructure.

Climate Change

We are proud to be a founding member of the Climate Leaders Coalition in Australia, an important new group of business leaders and subject-matter experts whose goal is to be a constructive and powerful voice on climate change. Last November, we announced Deloitte’s Global commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

Since then, we have further deepened our climate action commitment through our alignment to the Deloitte Global network’s WorldClimate initiative as well as how we operate as a business. Our new WorldClimate hub provides an engaging experience to learn about climate change. It includes an interactive climate quiz to help people understand their own climate impact and act accordingly.

Valuing Indigenous ways of seeing

Deloitte worked with Lowitja Institute, an Aboriginal-led research network that seeks to improve the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through investment in research. We showed the impact of 148 research projects undertaken across the past 10 years. One key finding was that western conceptions of value do not always translate in the context of First Nations Peoples and paradigms.

Reconnecting fire-affected families with clean water

Deloitte was a vital member of ‘Mission Rainwater’ through which families affected by the Black Summer bushfires across East Gippsland were once again connected to household water. This collaborative project was started by Tradies for Fire Affected Communities.

Meet Hannah – Consulting Graduate

Meet Hannah, a Consulting Graduate in our Transformation & Operations team. Being based in Canberra has her meeting onsite with clients, and working alongside colleagues interstate, to deliver unique consulting solutions.

Hannah completed a BA Economics & BA Science (Hons) at the UNSW.

Follow Hannah as she walks us through a day-in-the-life in our Transformation & Operations team!

06:00 am

I wake up and scroll through social media before going for a run, showering, and then getting ready for work.

08:30 am

I have a client meeting first thing this morning, so I make sure I arrive at their office early. I sit in a café in the lobby of their office while I'm waiting and check through my work emails.

09:00am

Attending the client meeting, I update them on our progress of developing a process map of their organisation. Half of my team is located interstate, so myself and a manager were in the meeting room, whilst other team members joined virtually.

10:30 am

I've got a regular morning stand up with my project team to plan what needs to be done and who is doing it. We also provided an update on the earlier client meeting, for those who couldn’t attend. I join the stand-up meeting on MS Teams from my phone while walking back to my car.

10:30 am

I travel home again from the client's office as they don't have enough desk space for me to work there during social distancing!

10:45 am

I write up my notes from the client meeting so that the client feedback can be actioned and meetings with stakeholders can be set up.

11:00 am

I set up a virtual call with two colleagues to discuss and agree on how to action the client’s feedback.

11:40 am

After getting off the call, I get into working on the process map. We use MS Teams as a collaborative tool, which allows for us to all work on the document together remotely.

12:30 pm

Lunch break- I’m at home today, so I used my break to make lunch and call my parents.

1:10 pm

My afternoon is busy working on client deliverables, particularly focusing on refining the process map as it's due to be presented to our senior client in two days.

5:00 pm

My project team email the client process map deliverable across to our Director for QA (quality assurance check) prior it going to the Partner on our project.

Meet Adam – Tax & Legal Graduate

Meet Adam from Brisbane, a Graduate in the DPR (Deloitte Private) Tax & Advisory team. For a student who didn’t know much about professional services, he’s sure got his career off to an awesome start, beginning with Deloitte’s Insider program to now landing a Grad role.

Follow Adam through a day-in-the-life in the Brisbane office!

8:20 am

Arriving at the office, I try to find myself a seat overlooking the Brisbane river. This is probably my favourite seat in the Brisbane office (the benefits of hot-desking!)

8:25 am

The kitchen is usually replenished with fresh fruit and breakfast items, so I usually help myself to some and make myself a hearty breakfast!

8:35 am

Back to my desk to catch up on some emails over my freshly made breakfast.

9:00 am

After about half an hour of emails and planning out the rest of my day, I get started on my work at 9:00am. Here’s a super candid photo of the team from where I’m sitting today!

9:30 am

Every Monday at 9:30am, I catch-up with my coach to talk through my workflow for the week. Since working at Deloitte, I’ve really sensed how much the business values its people. With such structured mentoring and support, I never felt like I was on my own and it made my transition from graduating Uni to joining such a big firm so much easier and less daunting!

10:30 am

Halfway to lunch time – time for a short coffee break! Heading to the kitchen, I make myself a coffee with our “Franke” coffee machine (yes, we named our coffee machines) and grab some more fruit.

12:00 pm

After a productive hour and a bit, I’ve smashed out some more of my work and start to gather the troops for a team lunch.

1:00 pm

Back from lunch and trying to fight the food coma, I’ve got a couple of meetings, training workshops and catch-ups scheduled for the rest of the day.

4:30 pm

It’s already almost the end of the day – where did time go!

I start to submit my timesheet and plan out my workflow for tomorrow. The day usually ends with some casual banter with the team before everyone heads home for more fun tomorrow!

Meet Maddison – Audit & Assurance Graduate

Meet Maddison, an Audit & Assurance (A&A) Graduate in our Global & Middle Markets team. Her role regularly has her working from client offices across the city, keeping her on the go, and keeping things interesting.

Maddison completed a BA Commerce (Accounting) at Macquarie University.

Follow Maddison as she walks us through a day-in-the-life in one of our Audit & Assurance teams!

5.30am

The sound of my alarm goes off and I get ready to head off to the gym. I love working out every morning before work, it leaves me feeling clear-headed, energised, and ready to start my day.

I go super early so I can also fit in a walk with my dog before work. This is when I listen to music/podcasts, scroll through social media, and enjoy my ‘me time’ before the working day begins.

8:45 am

I arrive to the office and head up to level 18. We can sit anywhere we like in the office – I usually sit close to the team I am working with so we can easily have discussions throughout the day. You will definitely learn the most on the job through interactions with your team.

One of the pros of working in A&A is that we get to work in a lot of different places. When I am not working from the Deloitte office, I am usually working from my client’s office. Anywhere from Parramatta, to Barangaroo, to The Hills, to Surry Hills – the clients I have are located all over Sydney, which keeps things interesting. While there’s always a new coffee spot to try out, being on client site also provides ample opportunity to learn about my clients, be involved in face to face meetings, and observe how they do business.

8:50 am

I make some breakfast in the kitchen, and then head back to my desk to check my emails, calendar, and prioritize my tasks for the day.

9:30 am

Time for the team status update. These status meetings are great for encouraging team accountability and giving context for the workday. We catchup as a team to go through where we are up to with our allocated tasks, our plan of action for the day, and raise anything that is blocking us from moving forward.

11:00 am

Time for a coffee break. I make myself a coffee in the kitchen with our coffee machine.

12:30 pm

After a productive morning, I’ve worked up an appetite. Time to have a catch up with my  colleagues and friends over lunch.

Even though I almost always bring my lunch from home, I try to make time at lunch to get outside in the sunshine for a while. And going for a walk is a perfectly healthy excuse to go out for an ice-cream.

1:30 pm

I’m back from lunch and have a call scheduled with my client soon. Time to review the agenda and plan out the questions I will ask. Before the meeting, I like to re-confirm with the Senior Analyst to make sure I have addressed everything required.

I head to a meeting room to join the call. The client’s Financial Accountant addresses all the queries I had, and now I have all the information I need to continue with my work.

3:30 pm

Quick catch up with one of my colleagues. We have a little bit of banter, chatting about our plans for the weekend as well as our exam coming up.

We are both currently studying for the Chartered Accountants (CA) program. Deloitte has a great CA support program that provides reference materials, training programs, mock exams, and study leave. The program has given me the opportunity to improve my skills and knowledge.  While it can be challenging, everyone around is extremely helpful and you will feel very supported.

5:00 pm

I finish up the last few things I have on my to-do list for the day and start packing up. I try to leave work on time so that I have time to unwind when I get home and spend time with my loved ones.

Similarly, if you're interested in Climate and Sustainability, our Environment, Social and Governance team in Audit would love to have you.

2020 marked the launch of Deloitte Australia’s third Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). While our work towards reconciliation as a country and as a firm is ongoing, the launch of our third RAP during National Reconciliation Week is a big milestone. It challenges us to embed reconciliation initiatives into our business strategies and culture and achieve fairer outcomes for Indigenous Australians.

Deloitte and our people are proud to walk together with Australia’s First Nations people.

Deloitte First Nations Internship Program 2020/21
