SEEK Software Development Graduate Program

You may know SEEK as the Australian jobs board, founded in 1997 in Melbourne, modernising the traditional newspaper employment classifieds and making them available online. Since then, SEEK has become more than a jobs board, helping candidates find their first job (this could be you!), choosing a career, making career changes, and everything in-between.

We are a global player with the soul of a start up, so you can work on diverse, international teams with the care and connection of a smaller organisation.

Our state-of-the-art offices in Cremorne provide an exceptional space to collaborate with colleagues in spaces designed for testing, observation and research.

The office provides sweeping views of the city, as well as a games area featuring a pool table, table tennis table, Xbox Series X and PlayStation.

About our Engineering Teams

Our people are the foundation of every product we build. You will have the opportunity to work alongside passionate software engineers who will respect and value your opinion, encourage you to step outside your comfort zone, challenge the status quo and deliver exceptional experiences for our users.

We work on a ‘you build it, you run it’ culture and our established platform, tech stack and code base with minimal tech-debt means you can focus on trying new things, not finding new tools.

Now for some important stats and facts:

  • Australia's most visited employment site with more than 2.5x the visits of our nearest competitor
  • With over 13m candidate profiles, we are uniquely positioned to engage with, and draw insight from, candidates in the ANZ market
  • We operate in 18 countries, #1 player in 14 of them
  • We’re ASX50, listed since 2005
  • We’ve been recognised as the Best Place to Work Overall and the Best Place to Work – Tech Industry in The Australian Financial Review #BestPlaces2021 Awards.

SEEK in Action

We’re really proud of our culture, which is brought to life in many ways. From our Friday afternoon drinks and awesome events, to our work in the community and focus on diversity and inclusion. Without question, our culture has been an integral part of our success and will continue to be as SEEK evolves.

Small Change

Here’s just a few of the things SEEKers can get involved in:

Hackathons: Twice a year over three days SEEKers are given full autonomy to work together and then present their ‘hacks’ at a marketplace, where they can win prizes and get their products endorsed as a business priority and put on the product roadmap. Many of SEEK’s products available to customers have come out of Hackathon ideas. We love our Hackathons, where we collaborate on passion projects and push the boundaries of technology. It’s a thrill seeing your hack ideas get shipped to production. Nothing is off limits!

Supporting the community: SEEK contributes to the wider community in many ways, including through SEEK Volunteer (the leading volunteer marketplace in Australia and New Zealand), providing opportunities for employees to volunteer in the community with one day of paid leave each year to work at a charity of their choice, and dollar matching every donation employees make through our ‘Small Change’ workplace giving program.

SEEK are part of the ASX Top ten charitable companies with 60% of our people participating in our workplace giving program, Small Change. We are proud to have been named winners of the inaugural Workplace Giving Excellence Awards in 2018 from the Australian Charities Fund.

Events: Our awesome events happen throughout the year, including trivia evenings, SEEK Slam (our annual tennis comp), SEEK Footy, Carnival Day and much more.

Celebrating success: at SEEK we’re big on celebrating success. When we achieve goals, or hit milestone points we come together and acknowledge the teams who have contributed to delivering to the goal and educate SEEKers on how this gets us closer to achieving our Purpose and then we celebrate!

Women at SEEK

Gender Equality diversity icon

Seek Fast Program logo

At SEEK we are proud of our gender balance and support of females across the business however gender diversity is a challenge faced by the technology industry and a focus within our technology teams. We are on a journey to continue to challenge ourselves and think about new ways we can support SEEKers and the technology industry.

seek

Community

At SEEK we believe in building supportive networks through communities both internal and external that encourage growth and support of women in technology. Working with and hosting meet-ups and learning days with groups such as Geek Girl Dinners, Tech Leading Ladies, Dev-Ops Girls and HaXX are an important way that Seekers and the external technology community come together to learn, share challenges and lessons and have fun.

SEEK also runs internal events with our DevSisters group as well as building out a female development program for leaders across the business called FAST – Females at SEEK Thrive.

Seek Camp

Growing the Pool of Women in Tech

The number of women entering the industry is low and declining, resulting in a shortage of women in the technology talent pipeline industry wide. As a leading technology organisation, we have a role to play to encourage and support more women to make the choice to study and work in the technology industry. A key belief at SEEK is to have a positive impact on society and we do this through a number of programs and initiatives to impact the industry as a whole.

As part of its strategy to ‘grow the pool’ of female talent entering the technology industry, SEEK has implemented Camp SEEK and an associated Alumni Program. Camp SEEK is a week-long program for girls in Years 9 and 10 during which participants are exposed to the broad careers available in technology.

Seek Group Image

The program aims to engage and inform girls about technology careers; encourage them to continue to pursue their STEM studies; challenge stereotypes by introducing them to female role models; and provide a fresh perspective about what it is like to work in the technology industry.

Camp SEEK was designed and implemented in 2014 and now has over 100 graduates. An Alumni Program brings these past students together through events run throughout the year and provides support to girls considering a career in technology.

  • choose your own adventure – explore  four 6-month rotations across different areas of the business, such as across strategy, artificial intelligence (AI), product development, commercial excellence, our internal start-ups such as Jora and Certsy, as well as our international business, covid restrictions permitting.
  • have a dedicated career coach, a seasoned leader within the business, who will support, guide and mentor you in your early career and beyond
  • drive decisions that have real-time impact and shape our business priorities
  • learn from senior leaders and subject matter experts with diverse backgrounds, including global technology companies and management consulting

Curious? Good – that’s exactly what we look for.

What will the journey look like?

Your first month with SEEK is dedicated to giving you a world class introduction to corporate strategy. You’ll engage in training from skilled professionals and be exposed to senior leaders across the business. After that, the possibilities are endless. Your journey as a SEEK Strategy & Operations Graduate could look like:

Month 2 - you kick off your first rotation in the Strategy team. You settle in, get the lay of the land and start solving interesting and challenging problems. What should our vision be for the next 5 years? What markets should SEEK consider moving into? You help us decide.

Month 6 - you switch it up and move to Artificial Intelligence (AI) team, moving closer to the technology side of the business. Here you learn all about data and work closely with the team of data scientists to figure out how we can improve matching candidates with the best roles for them.

Month 12 - you find yourself intrigued to know more about how digital products are built and want exposure to agile delivery teams, so you join the candidate product team. Here, you see just how ‘features’ are born. You work with the team to help identify the biggest opportunities to improve our candidate products and drive those changes through.

Month 18 - you want to change it up completely, so you choose to spend the next 6 months in Kuala Lumpur supporting the growth of our Asia businesses. You expand your network, pick up new skills, and make the most of your nights and weekends exploring a new city.

Month 24 - You’ve had an amazing journey through out the graduate program and are perfectly prepared to take on your new role. You choose to work in the product strategy team, so you are exposed to product, tech and strategy - the perfect blend for you after your rotations. Congratulations!

Whilst you might move around, a dedicated career coach will support you for your entire graduate experience, and beyond. They'll be your anchor, to offer advice, be a sounding board and help you make the most of the entire experience.
