Graduate Programs – Open to final year students

2024 Graduate Trader Program

Are you passionate about maths, puzzles and strategy games? Interested in how you can turn this passion into a career?

SIG is looking for soon-to-be and recent graduates who are interested in using decision science to solve problems in the world around them to join our 2024 Graduate Quantitative Trader program.

SIG’s Quantitative Trader program is designed to help you develop into an autonomous decision maker, capable of creating profitable trading strategies, assessing risk, and appropriately allocating firm capital. At the end of the program, you’ll be invited to attend a 10-week training class in our Philadelphia office, where you’ll learn directly from one of our founding partners, as well as senior traders who have decades of experience in the industry.

2024 Buy Side Research Graduate Program

Do you enjoy watching how company specific news and current events impact the financial markets? Like solving puzzles and working competitively with a team to win?

SIG is looking for final year students who are interested in why financial markets move the way they do to join our 2024 Buy Side Research Graduate Program.

Our Buy Side Research Analysts work directly with our traders to identify trading opportunities in the equity and options markets. From providing real-time opinions on breaking news to in-depth analysis of future catalyst events, our Buy Side Research Analysts have a constant impact on our trading strategies.

As a Buy Side Research Analyst, you will be responsible for finding opportunities that other market participants may not be capitalizing on, either by discovering new information or considering existing knowledge from a different perspective. You will be embedded in a sector-focused trading desk and work collaboratively with traders who rely heavily on the analysis you
provide to make trading decisions.

2024 Technology Graduate Program

Want to engage in business-critical roles from day one and step on the path to becoming a versatile problem solver?

SIG’s opportunities for new tech grads will allow you to work alongside experienced software engineers on the development, delivery, support, and enhancement of our trading systems and infrastructure. With guidance and mentoring from your team, you’ll get hands-on experience beginning on your first day. The education associated with this program aims to familiarise you with our technology environment, our business, current industry topics pertaining to technology, and how we apply decision science at SIG.

Successful candidates will be in their final year BS or MS Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar major. You will have well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify a problem, evaluate it, and suggest solutions while collaborating with your team.

2023 Graduate Quantitative Strategist – Open to PhD/Master’s Applicants

Interested in using your problem-solving and programming skills to discover new trading signals? Want to have an immediate impact, translating ideas and conversations into profitable trading strategies?

SIG is looking for Master or PhD graduates who are hungry to dig into large data sets and find patterns within the financial markets. As a Quantitative Strategist, you will play a hybrid role between systematic trading and quantitative research, solving real-world problems and making a direct impact to our business. The successful candidate will be data-driven and detail-oriented, with a strong foundation in statistics and computer science. Quant Strategists are seated at the heart of our trading floor, constantly collaborating with others, and continually exploring the dynamic intricacies within the game of trading.

2023 Graduate Quantitative Researcher – Open to PhD Applicants

SIG’s Quantitative Researchers hold PhDs or Post Docs from diverse fields including Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, and Engineering. Our quants apply their problem-solving expertise to real-time trading opportunities within the capital markets.

We’re looking for accomplished researchers who are interested in growing their career in the field of quantitative finance. The type of problems we solve at SIG are often different from the subject of your PhD thesis, but nonetheless, our problems demand the attention of brilliant minds that have an extraordinary attention to detail and a relentless pursuit of understanding.

Working from our Sydney office, our interns will experience how our traders use decision science, game theory, and technology to make trading decisions. Our education program combines both classroom and on the ‘trading desk’ training, which provides interns with a deep exposure to trading, so they can decide if it is what they want to pursue as a career.

We Like Competition

Competition is part of the culture at SIG. In addition to outings like SIG Family Day at the Cricket, we have plenty of local SIG clubs including running, hiking, bowling and more. Each year, the Sydney team enters the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge and Bloomberg Square Mile Relay.

We're More Than Just a Job

If you ask employees why they like SIG, they’ll almost always say the same thing: the people. We like spending time with each other both in and out of the office. We engage in many sports and social activities throughout the year. And each December, every office gets together for a well-deserved year-end celebration.

We're Always Learning

Our SIG Speaker Series gives us the opportunity to hear from thought leaders and experts (including our own) across many topics. From professors to chess masters, Todd Sampson to Dr. Sam Roberts, our recent talks have covered expert decision making, persuasion, neuroscience, and the cloud.

Quantitative Trader

Every day is a genuinely new and interesting challenge, much more so than I’d ever anticipated.

Your degrees are in Maths and Engineering. What led you to trading?

I was interested in trading but didn’t know much about it. I went into consulting after graduation, but I soon felt that it wasn’t right for me. Around this time, I spoke with a friend from University who was a trader at SIG, and I decided to apply. I had been interviewing at another financial services firm when I got my offer. When the other firm also spoke really highly of SIG, I knew I was making the righ…

Graduate Software Developer

I’ve always been interested in learning new technologies, and SIG has been great in facilitating this for me.

What drew you to consider a career at a trading firm versus technology firm after University?

I participated in an electronic trading competition in my final year at university, which got me really interested in trading.  I loved the combination of computing, finance and mathematics. A friend then told me about SIG so I went to the firm’s website and applied.  Of the offers I had, SIG was the only trading firm I considered. I decided to join because of the exposure I’d get to different teams and…

Quantitative Trader at SIG

Education and collaboration culture is great. I enjoy doing quantitative analysis and running trading tools for the team.

What sparked your interest in joining a company like SIG?

I was interested in mathematics and strategy, and felt that trading would be an area that would allow me to pursue these interests and learn to make optimal decisions in a competitive, fast-paced environment. SIG is a place where all of these things are part of my education and my day-to-day career.

What made you decide to join SIG?

The focus on education and the opportunity to train with other quantitative t…
