The Opportunity

We have two opportunities for dynamic individuals to assist in the planning and management of the natural and built environment of the Bega Valley Shire as well as to assist and advise the Planning Services Coordinator on planning objectives, policies and guidelines, having regard to community expectations and changing physical, social, and economic demands. 

As Town Planner, you will prepare reports, correspondence and other advice relating to Planning Proposals as well as research, prepare and evaluate (as appropriate) Environmental Studies, Local Environmental Plans, Development Control Plans, Aboriginal Land Claims and Crown Land Assessments. You will pursue and apply for grants and research opportunities that support the delivery of Council’s planning functions.

About You

We are seeking individuals who hold a tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning (or equivalent) and has a current NSW Class C drivers licence. We are open to applicants who demonstrate any amount or range of town planning experience, including Graduate Town Planners who are seeking further experience.

You will have the following skills and experience;

  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant environmental planning legislation, including: Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, State Environmental Planning Policies, Local Environmental Plans, circulars and relevant policies.
  • Proficiency in policy formulation and implementation.
  • Experience and ability in assessing and making recommendations on a wide range of development applications.
  • High level analytical and investigative skills including demographic, socio-economic, and land use supply and demand.

Benefits

This is a permanent full time position working 35 hours per week.

The total remuneration package for this position commences at $103,365.08 gross per annum, comprising of:

  • $1,790.80 per week base salary
  • $196.99 per week superannuation (calculated at 11%)
