About the Position Road Safety Officer (RSO) has the opportunity to work across both Greater Hume Council and Lockhart Shire Council local government areas to work within Council’s multi-disciplinary functions, to promote road safety strategies and to develop education programs to promote road safety awareness. The RSO works closely with a range of key stakeholders, including residents, community groups and government agencies such as Transport for NSW, to assist with implementing road safety strategies and local initiatives to surrounding communities. Greater Hume and Lockhart Shire are searching for an experienced Road Safety Officer to coordinate the development and implementation of a Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan across both Council areas. The position will also provide support in other traffic and transport areas of both Councils. As Road Safety Officer, you will: · Develop and implement both Councils’ Road Safety Strategic and Three Year Action Plan with particular emphasis on projects that utilise the Safe Systems approach to road safety · Facilitate the Local Government Road Safety Program, fostering existing partnerships and encouraging wider community ownership and participation in road safety issues · Apply the Local Government Road Safety Program Guidelines · Contribute to state-wide and regional road safety · Consult with the local community (including Council colleagues, service providers, local stakeholders, businesses, groups and individuals) to develop and deliver road safety projects using the Safe Systems approach to road safety · Consult with local and state government agencies and peak representative bodies, the media and educational establishments in order to develop a platform for delivering the road safety message · Undertake functions associated with meeting reporting, monitoring, evaluation and budget management requirements according to the Programme Agreement between the two Councils (the employer) and Transport for NSW (the funding body). The preferred applicant will have the choice of working from Greater Hume Council, or Lockhart Shire Council as a base location, with the requirement to travel between locations as required.
