Council has an exciting opportunity to join the Development Servies team as Town Planner, this being a Senior Town Planner, Town Planner or Graduate Town Planner. This role will be responsible for providing planning and development advice and services within legislative requirements and best practice to achieve a sustainable future for Cabonne. A major component of the role is in delivering efficient and timely determination of Development Applications (DAs).

This role is a full-time role, based out of the Molong office.

Working for Cabonne Council provides a rewarding opportunity to work for and in a close knit community. The operation does not require shift work or rotational rostering, instead working Monday to Friday, providing flexibility for the perfect work/life balance. The position operates over a 35 hour week with a 9 day fortnight.

Role Purpose

  • To ensure that all statutory requirements are met and that Council’s interests and integrity are protected.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of strategies and programs to protect and preserve the heritage of Cabonne.

  • Preparation/assisting with minor amendments to Cabonne Local Environmental Plan.

  • Develop/assist with strategies to ensure the Cabonne Local Environmental Plan reflects the current community’s needs.

  • Enforcement provisions of planning legislation, plans and development management practices.

  • Guide decisions/ make recommendations on Construction Certificates, Occupation Certificates, Complying Development Certificates and compliance matters, and to proactively be involved in resolving issues in a team environment.

  • Issue various planning certificates and negotiate amendments to applications which are deemed necessary to mitigate adverse environmental impacts.

  • Provide a high level of customer service, responding promptly to enquiries.

  • Ensure customer service requests are followed through and the actions and outcomes are adequately documented with electronic notes within Council’s records system.

  • Compliance matters resulting from developments are investigated as required.

  • Keep up-to-date records of application progress and report status and utilise Council’s computerised data management system.

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning, or equivalent in a related field

  • Class C driver’s licence.


Skills & Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in town planning or equivalent
  • Practical experience in development assessment under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act including assessment of complex development matters.
  • Understanding of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, and other relevant legislation and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management and staff at all levels of the organisation and with external contacts
  • Excellent negotiation and presentation skills
  • Superior ability to resolve complex planning issues with applicants for development and excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines with possession of excellent time management skills

    Other details relating to this position:

    • The Town Planner position is graded 8-9 ($1,390.50 - $1,631.70 gross per week). the Senior Town Planner position is graded 12 ($1,889.10 - $2,034.40 gross per week).
