TALs Technology Graduate program has been designed to challenge graduates by immersing them in our IT teams, as well as offering experience in other areas of our business. We are seeking future leaders who want to use their passion and skills to make a difference to the lives of Australians.

What we can provide: 

  • The Technology Graduate role is designed to help guide and explore your unique potential and undergo 4 rotations over a 24-month period across Technology and Innovation.  
  • You will be involved in technology activities across Platforms and gain a working knowledge in Agile delivery with a view to becoming technically proficient in the core technologies used at TAL. 
  • Along with hands on experience, ongoing mentoring and buddy support and exciting graduate cohort of activities, you will also have access to our Tech Academy program which is designed to continue your personal and professional learning. 
  • Under our Tech Academy, you will hear from guest speaker events about the latest tech trends, participate in hackathons, complete code warrior training (for developers and engineers) and be given access to over 6,000 on-demand training courses from Project Management, Data Science through to Yoga or meditation!  
  • Throughout your rotations, you will work with a raft of platform architects, tech engineers, analysts and tech strategists that work cohesively to develop, implement, and maintain systems that build business value and drive performance.
  • TAL Graduates complete a 1-week study tour to our Dai-ichi Life head office in the second year of the Graduate Program.


What you will do:

Led by the Chief Information and Innovation Officer, the Technology and Innovation comprises over 600 staff. The teams work across foundational areas that enable TAL to perform its day-to-day business processes and ultimately support our customers when they need us most.

Rotations on the Graduate Program include working on projects with the teams outline below:

  • Infrastructure and Operations: this team oversees infrastructure architecture and networks across TALs IT operations. As well as business and user computing services, the team manage cloud optimisation and future capacity planning initiates. 
  • Continuous Delivery: this team develops and supports underlying technology health, innovations, and improvements across all TAL’s product suite and aligned technology stacks. Organised by Platforms and team Pods, Continuous Delivery teams operate within an Agile environment and execute the delivery for initiatives from large scale, multi-year transformations, product development, to operational platform health activities. 
  • Cyber Security is responsible for analysing the cyber threat landscape and for raising TAL's cyber threat awareness and protection levels. 
  • The Integration function supports large scale integrations of applications and products, for example our recent integration of Asteron Life. 


Who we are looking for:

  • A strong academic track record (distinction average or above) in a technology related discipline; Computer Science, Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, Data Science and/or Data Analytics.
  • You will be IT curious with a high passion for technology and be a logical problem solver with critical thinking skills.
  • Curious and passionate about technology and ongoing learning.
  • Have an open mind and be willing to provide and receive constructive feedback.
  • Be able to juggle multiple tasks in a high paced working environment; and work both independently and deliver as a member of a team. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well-rounded background with experience across community and / or extra-curricular activities.
  • Interest in roles that not only embraces analytical skills but is also customer focused.
  • Leadership qualities developed through high school, university, work experience and / or extracurricular activities.
  • Initiative and drive, together with the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.

Who can apply:

  • The program starts in February 2024 by which time you must be an Australian citizen, a Permanent Resident of Australia or hold a 485 Sub-Class Visa, and willing to undergo references and background checks as required.
  • Completion of an undergraduate or post-graduate degree in the last 2 years or by the end of 2023
