“I think the best part about the team is that between operational leaders, supervisors and the broader team in general, everyone's always open to provide feedback, answer questions or provide you with support. You know that you can just pick up the phone at any time, even if you're not seeing the team in person, you can reach out for that support.”
In his first few years at university, Ryan wasn’t certain where his degree would lead him and certainly didn’t think it would be a role with Aspect. Whilst initially uninterested in paediatr…

Speech Pathology
What university did you attend and what did you study there?
I completed my Masters in Speech Pathology at the University of Technology, Sydney. I chose to study there as I was really impressed at how UTS was merging principles of health care and speech pathology with elements of the 21st century. There was a big focus on the integration of technology into therapy, and how best we could use technology to our advantage when working as SP’s.
What has it been like starting out your speech pathology career at Aspect?
Starting a career at Aspect has been a huge learning curve. I feel that…

Diversity & Inclusion

Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) values, respects and promotes the diversity of life experiences of our participants/students, their families and the communities in which we work. Diversity is a strength to celebrate and Aspect recognises it is essential for creating a culture that is inclusive, respectful and equitable.
In creating and maintaining a diverse culture in Aspect, we recognise that individuals’ strengths, needs and contributions differ and we respond accordingly.
Aspect is committed to the principles of equal opportunity and encourages a diverse and inclusive workplace which brings out the best in our people and helps to more successfully achieve our mission.
Disability

Aspect works in partnership with Autistic people throughout our organisation, in governance, research, service planning and service delivery. Read more about this in our Working in Partnership Charter. We employ Autistic individuals and provide support based on their individual requirements.
All Aspect business units regularly utilise the Aspect Think Tank – a collaboration of Aspect staff specialists and people on the autism spectrum. This is a group that advises Aspect on matters of day to day practice, service planning and delivery, enabling Aspect to continually improve their day to day practices.
The Aspect Advisory Council (comprising 7 Autistic people) provides independent advice to the Board of Aspect and its Executive team on Aspect's governance including the management of strategy and the company's corporate risks based on the council members' insights and experiences.
LGBTIQ+

In 2018, Aspect formed the LGBTQIA+ Advisory Committee. The Committee provides advice and education on how to provide inclusive support for LGBTQIA+ Autistic people and to be an inclusive organisation. The Committee guided the implementation and review of our Engagement Plan.
In addition to acknowledging and recognising the LGBTQIA+ community internally, Aspect staff and members of the Autistic community also participate in the annual Mardi Gras parade.
Multicultural Community

Aspect programs and activities are designed to be culturally appropriate, responsive and inclusive of the needs of people on the autism spectrum from diverse backgrounds. We engage with diverse communities and organisations that represent them to understand their needs, access Aspect services, and collaboratively design services and supports that represent an inclusive, person-centred environment. Read more about our Multicultural Engagement Plan.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders

The Aspect Board of Directors and employees acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Nations Peoples of Australia. In 2020, Aspect launched our Reconciliation Action Plan. The development stage of our Innovate RAP involved collaboration across our Aspect teams and with a number of key external stakeholders. Here we acknowledge our existing partnerships with First Nations communities and detail meaningful action that will help us achieve our vision for reconciliation.
We also provide culturally appropriate resources for First Nations individuals on the autism spectrum that have been developed by a local Worimi woman and Aspect’s Aboriginal Speech Pathologists.
