CareerDC charges a coordination fee for each internship program. The service includes a tailored CV update, interview preparation, access to host company interviews, a work experience placement aligned with your engineering major, an accredited Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course if required, and guidance throughout your internship.

Build experience across the engineering profession

This 12-week internship program is designed for students and graduates who want to explore the application of engineering in real workplace environments and who want to get hands-on work experience. It provides an opportunity to develop both technical abilities and workplace confidence while gaining insights into how the profession operates in practice.

Why join this program?

  • Be exposed to engineering assignments that matter
Depending on your major and host company, you may be involved in design modelling, prototype development, systems testing, or data analysis. The projects will give you practical exposure to engineering tools, processes and thinking.
  • Develop a balanced skill set
As well as building your technical know-how, you’ll develop core skills in collaboration, communication and organisation — all essential to working effectively in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Explore how engineering shapes industries
From construction and energy to technology and advanced manufacturing, you’ll see how engineering contributes to diverse sectors. Each placement is designed to show you different aspects of the profession depending on your background and interests.

Who can apply?

  • University students in Australia
If you are an international or local student studying engineering at an Australian university or college, this program can help you complete your placement requirement and gain professional experience.
  • New graduates and students without a placement requirement
If your course does not include an internship requirement, or you have already finished your studies, you can still take part through a WIL program designed to add structure and academic value to your work experience placement.

Placement opportunities

Your internship will be arranged to suit your academic pathway, location preference and availability. Example host companies include:

  • A construction engineering firm delivering infrastructure projects
  • A technology-driven manufacturing company
  • A renewable energy business focused on sustainable innovations

Example internship tasks

Your role will vary depending on your engineering major and host company, but may include:

  • Experiencing drafting and modelling with engineering software
  • Supporting system analysis, prototype testing and quality control
  • Assisting with technical documentation and project coordination
  • Contributing to research, simulations or design reviews
