Who can apply

  • Engineering students in Australia
    The internship program is designed for international engineering students in Australia to gain local work experience relevant to their engineering studies. It's a good option if you want Australian work experience and academic credit for the internship. Domestic students are also welcome to apply.
  • New graduates
    If your degree does not have an internship component, or if you have recently graduated, you can enrol for the internship program and combine your work experience placement with an accredited Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program.

About host companies and internship tasks

To give you some examples, the host companies include:

  • A company that designs and manufactures precision-engineered products for clients in the automotive and building industries;
  • Mechanical engineering company with hundreds of industrial, commercial and residential maintenance contracts; and
  • A company that specialises in the development and administration of intelligent HVAC solutions;

As another example, and depending on the host company, your internship could see you learn and get hands-on experience in any of the following types of tasks:

  • Learning about developing a project specification with colleagues from other engineering disciplines.
  • Learning about project management and how to discuss and solve problems.
  • Assisting product managers and technicians with product inspections and functional testing.
  • Learning about reviewing quotations and measuring against specifications and drawings.
  • Assisting with the preparation of documentation and transmittals.
  • Getting hands-on experience in conducting experiments and evaluations to improve and innovate product designs.
  • Assisting with the creation of plans and designs using CAD technology.
