About the opportunity

Each year, we provide practical experience to 2 Student Planners enrolled with the intention of completing relevant qualifications in Town Planning or a related field. The Student Planners make valuable contributions to our planning functions and assist with the various tasks and duties undertaken by the City Planning and Development directorate. It also provides students with an opportunity to work within local government and gain practical town planning experience.

These positions are offered on a term contract, full-time basis for up to 12 months, providing a structured and immersive experience in both strategic planning and development assessment. You will be mentored by leaders within our multi-disciplinary team to gain essential knowledge to further your career.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Currently enrolled, with the intention of completing relevant qualifications in a related field
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation/regulations
  • Computer Literate.

Desirable: 

  • Experience in planning, policy and strategy
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Current class C driver's licence
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Availability to work flexible working hours.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,315.70 per week
  • 35-hour working week 
  • Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement
  • Employee benefits such as leave entitlements (where applicable), 12% employer contribution payable to your nominated superannuation fund, Fitness Passport, gym membership discounts, and social clubs.
