Our Graduate Program

We recognise the value graduates add to our business. So, we designed a program that gives you meaningful work, access to experienced mentors and the opportunity to learn and grow. We are an action-oriented company where not only will you be developed but your ideas and suggestions are also always welcome!

You will complete at least two rotations over two years, with the rotation number and length designed specifically for your discipline. You will be given day-to-day responsibilities, critical project work and both structured and on-the-job learning. At least one rotation will take you to a different site/location to broaden your knowledge and experience.

We will connect you with mentors and provide opportunities to network with other graduates. As a future leader of our business, it is important to us that you do "real work". Therefore you'll be exposed to the full breadth of our operations to work out where your career goals may be. You'll also have the opportunity to meet with, engage and present to senior leaders in our business to help develop those important soft skills to compliment the business and job/technical knowledge you have built.

What we look for in all our Graduates

  • You are able to travel for work and relocate as needed for a rotation (relocation support provided by us)

Application Process

Cement Australia

Step One - Apply!

This is the easy part. Answer a couple of short questions, upload your resume, academic transcript and evidence of working rights and you're in! We'll review your application and let you know if you have reached Step Two...

Step Two - Phone interview

We are keen to chat to you as soon as we can. This is a short call to find out a little more about you, why you're interested in our program and answer any questions you have. Unlike other programs we will make sure you talk to a real person from our company right from the get-go so you can suss us out too!

Step Three - Aptitude testing

This doesn't take up too much of your time. Should be less than 30 minutes including practice time, all completed online from home.

Step Four - Video interview (not recorded!)

We tried recorded video interviews. It was ok. But we like actually interacting with you! For this step we will have another short chat about you and some of your experiences. You can also ask any new questions that you may have thought of. Its just as important to us that you think this is the right role and program for you.

Step Five - Discovery Day

If we think you have the potential to join the CA team, you'll be invited to our Discovery Day. Here you will meet leaders, learn even more about the role and what we do, complete a written assessment, have an interview and take part in a group activity. We'll support your travel to and from the Discovery Day if you aren't local. Again unlike other programs, we will make sure you meet our LEADERS and not just recruiters so you have real insight into CA.

Step Six - Pre-employment checks and offer

Everyone joining CA completes a medical, background check and references. If you pass all of this then you will receive a formal offer!

Tips for our application process

  • Do your research. Whether it is with us or another company, read what you can on the company and role to make sure it's the right fit for you...and take notes to save for later
  • Check your tech - whether it is for your phone interview, aptitude testing or video interview. Make sure your device/s are charged, you have the privacy you need and test links before its time to meet
  • Ask questions! No question is too small. Just know if you get too technical, we may have to come back to you

Employee Profiles

Cement Australia

Hudson - Logistics Team Leader - SEQ (2018 Program)
Graduate role: Supply Chain and Logistics Graduate

Why did you choose our Grad Program?

It was a unique opportunity at the time and offered a broad array of development paths that gave me options with how I could progress in my career.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Working in supply chain and logistics is a dynamic environment. No two days are the same and there is always something to learn.

Why would you recommend the program to a new Grad?

We have a diverse supply chain that gives different learning opportunities and potential career paths. I think there is a lot of benefit working for a company that has a national presence and is a "Evergreen Industry"

How have you developed in your career so far since joining CA?

The grad program has fast tracked my leadership experience and given me hands-on problem solving I didn't think I would be given at this stage of my career.

How are you using your degree now?

Honestly, mainly only the 'soft-skills' at this present time. I studied Law as my undergraduate degree.

Do you have any tips for applicants?

Be authentic

Jack - Reliability Engineer (2019 Program)
Graduate Position: Graduate Mechanical Engineer
Current role: Reliability Engineer

Why did you choose our Grad Program?

The variety of locations and roles you get to experience over the two years (design projects, project management, maintenance work etc) was appealing for the first steps in a career.

What do you enjoy most about your role/CA?

I like how 'real' it all feels where I can see my projects executed on site, right in front of me, and the results of those changes can be very satisfying.

Why would you recommend the program to a new Grad?

Due to the wide range of work, you learn so much in a short amount of time all with the practical backdrop of on-site engineering supported by a range of experienced people.

How have you developed in your career so far since joining CA?

I have developed a number of my problem solving, prioritisation and technical skills that could be applied to a wide range of careers.

How are you using your degree now?

I provide technical engineering support to the site as part of my current role.

Do you have any tips for applicants?

Think about what sort of roles you'd like to try early in your career and what skills you'd like to further develop. Cement Australia has some interesting opportunities but they can also be challenging and push you beyond what you experienced at university.

What were your expectations vs reality of your Graduate role?

I expected to be primarily office based, fortunately seeing the works and equipment up close is something I enjoy (it is still a ~70% in the office role).

What did you do on a day-to-day basis as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer?

Every day was different but generally it involved site production support in the form of engineering design and maintenance either planned or opportunistically.

Olivia - Product Technical Specialist (2020 Program)
Graduate Position: Technical Services Graduate

Why did you choose our Grad Program?

It seemed interesting and would allow me to be hands on.

What do you enjoy most about your role/CA?

'Getting my hands dirty'/experimental work, investigating new materials and resolving different customer issues

Why would you recommend the program to a new Grad?

Each rotation was very different and allowed me to gain a significant amount of knowledge in different areas of the technical sphere. I thoroughly enjoyed moving around Australia and seeing different areas of the company. I would recommend this program as it is very dynamic and versatile.

How have you developed in your career so far since joining CA?

I have gained a significant amount of knowledge in chemistry, cement, concrete, other SCMs (supplementary cementitious materials) as well as improved overall as an individual, how I interact with others and my ability navigate through different challenges.

How are you using your degree now?

I am using a small percentage of my degree such as testing civil materials

Do you have any tips for applicants?

Be opened minded, there is a lot in the world that university has not exposed you too. Where you start is not necessarily where you finish, it is just important to start somewhere and gain as much knowledge as you can.

What were your expectations vs reality of your Graduate role?

Prior to commencing my grad role, I thought I'd be on site majority of the time. In reality, the role turned out to be very diverse in regards to everyday activities from site, to customer visits, to office etc.

What did you do on a day-to-day basis as a Technical Services Graduate?

It varied each day and each week. Daily work consisted of the following: laboratory testing, sampling, analysing data, research, report writing, developing mix designs etc.
