Location Profile

Briagolong Primary School is situated approximately 35 kilometres north of the main regional city of Sale.  Maffra and Stratford - two smaller towns - are also situated 15 to 20 kilometres away. The school was established in 1871 and is still using some of the original buildings. Briagolong is set on the plains at the foot of the Great Dividing Range.  The town consists of 500 persons with another 500 in the surrounding countryside. The school currently has 86 students with seven teaching staff and seven ES staff.

The school offers a comprehensive curriculum.  In addition to the disciplines of Literacy and Numeracy we offer specialised Health and Physical Education, Art, Digital Technologies and STEM. We have had a strong focus on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes through collaborative teaching practices and student voice.
In the upper school we run a Leadership Program aimed at developing leadership skills and resilience prior to their moving on to secondary college.

This program links with a number of areas in the curriculum, particularly Health, Personal Learning, Interpersonal Development, and Civics and Citizenship. Through the Student Action Team, senior students also take responsibility for running events for the whole school and specific activities for junior students.
