About this role

As a Graduate Civil Engineer at TMR, you will help plan, design, build, operate and maintain transport infrastructure across Queensland. You’ll support major projects which may include the Cape York Peninsula Development Road subprogram, Rockhampton Ring Road, Bruce Highway upgrades, Coomera Connector, and Gold Coast Light Rail. You’ll also engage in routine maintenance, road safety initiatives, and managing key transport routes. Along the way, you’ll develop expertise in civil, structural, rail, geotechnical, pavement or transportation engineering.

Important information for Engineering graduates: engineering qualifications must be 4-Year Washington Accord accredited or have undergone assessment for accreditation through Engineers Australia. 

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Assist in delivering the Queensland Transport Infrastructure Program (QTRIP) and managing investments of up to $1.4B/year.
  • Participate in routine maintenance, rehabilitation, and resurfacing programs.
  • Support contract management and collaborate with TMR’s RoadTek branch on delivery and emergency response.
  • Contribute to traffic management initiatives, including signal optimisation, congestion mitigation, and intelligent transport systems (ITS).
  • Engage in research, project planning, stakeholder management, and technical documentation.
  • Support the management of project team resources to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery of construction and maintenance initiatives.

Specialisations and development:

  • Opportunities to specialise in areas like road safety, asset management, geotechnical, hydrology, traffic engineering and ITS.
  • Rotational development plan over 18–24 months, including some elements of planning, design, project delivery, maintenance, governance and safety management.
  • Includes mentoring, job shadowing, site visits, and formal training aligned with TMR’s OnQ project management framework.

Technical skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering (4-year Washington Accord) completed within the last 3-years, or
  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering (4-year Washington Accord) and relevant post-graduate qualification completed within the last 12 months, or
  • If your Bachelor’s degree was completed at a University which was not part of the Washington Accord for any part of the period you studied, you will need to provide evidence from Engineering Australia that your skills and knowledge meet the same standard for your application to be considered.
