Diversity & Inclusion Committee

Our Diversity & Inclusion Committee encourages positive dialogue on diversity in the Australian offices. The committee’s work ensures that FTI Consulting embraces and celebrates unique ideas, solutions and opportunities to better our business and our work environments and provide the best possible service to clients.

Regular events, training, initiatives, and volunteering opportunities bring our people together, and we are aspiring to be a workplace where everyone can feel safe, included and themselves. It’s a journey!

Diversity Starts at the Top

Enhancing diversity, inclusion and belonging at FTI Consulting has the full support of the firm’s senior leadership, not only because it is an important social goal, but because it is the right thing to do for our people, our business, our clients and our communities. More diverse teams better reflect our clients and communities and enable us to bring to bear unique viewpoints and experiences to help clients address their most complex challenges and opportunities.

At FTI Consulting, we recognise that our ability to build and extend a world-class global consulting firm requires attracting the best professionals from every talent pool available. We have been working tremendously hard to create an inclusive and high-performing culture in which our professionals can grow their careers and achieve their full potential.

Our Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging efforts extend globally through a multi-pronged approach focused on attracting, developing and retaining diverse talent. This includes programs and strategies aimed at hiring, retaining and developing top female talent at all levels of the firm as well as talent from underrepresented populations that will support our aspirations for continuing to build a diverse and inclusive firm culture.

We will continue to focus on attracting diverse professionals to ensure we are building an inclusive firm and culture. For example, we:

  • Require all third-party agencies to bring a diverse candidate slate for all roles
  • Set a target of achieving a 50/50 gender balance for campus and graduate recruitment
  • Use targeted recruitment platforms focused on diverse groups to expand our talent search pool.

At FTI Consulting, we have a global and local Diversity & Inclusion Committee.

Pride at FTI Consulting

Support for the LGBTQIA+ community is a focus for FTI Consulting year-round, but of course, we also celebrate the big occasions like Pride Month and Wear it Purple Day with events like Pride Trivia Nights, educational presentations, and dress-up challenges.

In 2023, in honour of Sydney WorldPride, we also celebrated our relationship with Out for Australia and created a 3-part video series, and our team in Sydney hosted a Drag Queen Bingo.

Out for Australia

In 2021, we officially became a major partner of Out for Australia to support their mission to provide visible mentors, role models, thought leadership and targeted support to aspiring LGBTQIA+ professionals and to strengthen the sense of community among professionals and students.

Gender Equality

FTI Consulting’s Women’s Initiative

Our International Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) holds internal and external events to reinforce our commitment to being an employer of choice for highly talented female professionals.

The WIN program offers mentorship and networking to empower female professionals to reach their highest potential and develop best-in-class leadership capabilities.

WIN is also supporting several female-related charities (e.g. Dress for Success, Share the Dignity, 4Voices, Small Steps 4 Hannah, and more) and raises funds or item donations for them. In September 2023, eight of our Brisbane-based team members will sleep in their car in support of The Forgotten Women’s Live Like Her Challenge, which FTI Consulting proudly sponsors.

How we support our female talent

Similar to other professional services firms, we have more work to do to reshape our pipelines in order to attract and retain top female talent.

We recognise this as an area of opportunity to improve through hiring, development and retention initiatives, and to support our aspirations we have introduced the following programs and policies:

  • 18 weeks paid, gender-neutral parental leave with full superannuation contributions throughout paid and unpaid leave
  • Hybrid work programs
  • Our Executive Committee has committed to building three-year pipelines of potential female Senior Managing Director candidates so that we have a strong pool of talent for promotion
  • Succession planning and hiring for Executive Committee roles must include qualified female candidates on the interview slate
  • We offer talent development opportunities to increase the percentage of women in senior roles
  • We commit to a 50/50 gender balance in graduate hiring
