Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a trainee stock market analyst, portfolio manager and writer, based at our office in Cheltenham, Melbourne. You will be part of the team that produces the Marcus Today newsletter - our flagship member offering and a widely read stock and ETF research publication.

We are looking for someone who wants to understand the stock market, learn how to manage portfolios, and write stock-focused content. The ideal candidate will add real value from the outset through excellent computer skills, high-level Excel proficiency, and strong written English, as well as the ability to adopt and operate AI tools and workflows. We will train you until you can contribute ideas, analysis, and participate in our investment decisions. The content side of this role requires you to be both writer and editor at times.

Office days are four days a week, with Mondays working from home. It is important that you not only satisfy the job requirements on paper but that you integrate well into our tight-knit team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
  • Based in or near Bayside Melbourne - we are on Reserve Road, Cheltenham
  • A genuine interest in the stock market
  • High-level Microsoft Excel proficiency - this is non-negotiable
  • A strong command of written English, including comprehension and language
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A very high level of attention to detail when publishing analysis, figures, and charts
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Experience using financial analysis tools such as Bloomberg, Reuters, or FactSet would be well regarded
