Graduate Commissioning Engineer – 2027 Program

AI Job Summary

Great people, great engineers.

Start your career on real projects where you’ll help make complex building systems work from day one. You’ll learn by doing, backed by teammates and leaders who are easy to reach.

What is commissioning?

Commissioning is how we plan, test and tune a building’s mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fire and control systems so they work together as intended from day one.

What ECS does

We lead and verify the commissioning process. We coordinate trades, witness tests, track issues and hand over clear evidence and training so clients can run buildings with confidence.

Why this role

You’ll spend most of your time on project sites, not behind a desk. You’ll take ownership early, work to changing site schedules and get support when you need it, often remotely. The projects are varied - hospitals, tunnels, data centres, the name a few - so you won’t get bored.

What you’ll do

  • support the development and execution of commissioning plans and test procedures
  • participate in site-based testing of building services systems
  • helping deliver Green Star and LEED certification processes as an Independent Commissioning Agent (ICA) or Commissioning Authority (CxA)
  • contributing to building tuning, recommissioning and performance optimisation initiatives on existing buildings
  • prepare reports and documentation that give clients confidence in system performance and compliance

How we’ll support you

You’ll gain hands-on experience in commissioning management while also developing skills in:

  • project coordination and stakeholder communication
  • risk mitigation and quality assurance
  • sustainable building practices and green certification frameworks.

At ECS, you’ll be mentored by industry leaders and supported by a collaborative team that values precision, integrity and innovation.

What you’ll get

  • 5 weeks of annual leave
  • Flexible working built on trust - we work the peaks together, then recover
  • Global reach with a small‑team feel and chances to move across sectors and locations

About our graduate program

Our graduate program is designed to help you kick-start your career in the built environment. Over the 2-year program, you’ll take part in:

  • onsite and virtual workshops with graduates from across ECS and NDY (our parent company)
  • technical training delivered by specialists at ECS and NDY
  • social and networking events
  • regular check-ins with senior leaders.

It’s a program built to help you grow professionally and personally, with the support of a team that wants to see you succeed.

Must haves

  • A degree (or final year) in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics or building services
  • Be a clear and proactive communicator
  • Have a willingness to build confidence with clients and contractors on site
  • Be comfortable working on site with changing schedules and priorities
  • Be organised, curious and ready to ask for help early when you need it
  • Work rights for the role location and ability to travel to sites across the metro area

Nice to haves

  • Internship or site experience in building services or commissioning
  • Awareness of HVAC, electrical and hydraulic fundamentals
  • Exposure to Green Star, NABERS or LEED
  • Construction White Card and a driver’s licence
  • Familiarity with digital tools for remote collaboration and reporting

If you meet most of the criteria but not all, please apply.
