What is fire protection engineering?
Fire protection engineering designs active and passive systems that detect, control and suppress fire. Examples include sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, detection and alarm, fire rated construction and safe egress.
What the fire protection team does
We design sprinkler, hydrant, detection and warning systems. We coordinate with architecture and other building services designers, write clear specifications and support testing and commissioning.

What you’ll do
- Assist with design of sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, detection and warning systems
- Prepare drawings, schematics, calculations and equipment schedules
- Coordinate with the other building disciplines including architecture, structural and building services
- Contribute to risk reviews and compliance with standards and codes
- Visit sites to learn installation, testing and commissioning
- Support meetings and present options in clear, simple language

About our graduate program
Our two year program builds your consulting and technical skills. You will work with clients, learn how projects move from sketch to site and grow your confidence as a trusted adviser. You will join social and networking events, rotate across disciplines and get hands on experience that sets you up for a strong career.
Must haves
- Near completion of, or recently completed, a mechanical, fire safety or building services engineering degree
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Curious mindset with problem solving skills
- Available to start in 2027
- Full Australian working rights for the duration of the program
Nice to haves
- Exposure to fire protection design or drafting tools
- Familiarity with Australian Standards for fire systems and the NCC
- Interest in performance based solutions and coordination with fire engineering
- Internship, site or construction experience
