About The Role
As a Graduate Software Engineer, you’ll join a collaborative and forward-thinking team that values using the right technologies and following modern software engineering best practices.
This role is designed to support your development across both front-end and back-end engineering. You’ll contribute to real-world projects using technologies such as Java/.NET and AWS, while also gaining exposure to emerging capabilities like AI and machine learning to enhance our digital products and experiences.
Working alongside experienced engineers in an agile environment, you’ll be supported to build your skills across the full software development lifecycle from design and development through to testing, deployment and production support.
As part of the graduate program, you’ll rotate across at least two different delivery teams giving you the opportunity to broaden your technical exposure, build strong cross-team relationships and discover where your strengths and interests lie.
Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):
Software Design and Development
- Developing foundational skills in designing, building, and testing high-quality, maintainable software components.
- Taking ownership of the features and components you contribute, supporting them through production and assisting with post-release monitoring and issue resolution under guidance from senior engineers.
- Collaborating with team members to troubleshoot issues and continuously improve the team’s unit and integration test coverage.
- Actively participate in code reviews and agile ceremonies, using these as opportunities to learn, receive feedback, and build a strong understanding of software engineering best practices
Solution Delivery
- Supporting the creation of technical documentation and contribute to solution design discussions, building your understanding of system architecture and design principles.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g. product, design, and engineering) to understand requirements and help deliver meaningful, high-quality solutions.
- Gaining hands-on exposure to CI/CD pipelines, modern DevOps practices, and AI-driven tools and platforms, developing a well-rounded understanding of the software delivery lifecycle
Platform Support
- Supporting the team in maintaining the reliability, stability and performance of customer-facing applications, learning how systems operate in a production environment.
- Building an understanding of monitoring, alerting, and logging practices to help identify and troubleshoot issues in live systems.
- Contributing to implementing scalable and maintainable solutions, developing your skills in writing clean, efficient, and sustainable code with guidance from experienced engineers
About You
We’re passionate about development and provide on-the-job training, but we also want to set you up for success. To thrive in this graduate role, we’re looking for someone who brings the following:
- Strong interest in software development and digital technologies and a drive to explore emerging technologies, including AI and machine learning, and their practical application in software development
- Basic knowledge of Java or .NET, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and ideally some exposure to React or Node.js
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, agile environment
- Strong attention to detail with curiosity, critical thinking and a passion for solving problems and building great user experiences
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and solving undefined problems; ability to think abstractly
