2018 Australian Grad Market Round-up

Posted by Daniel Headford

It’s the end of the year and we can almost smell the Christmas dinner and feel the sand between our toes. But before we pause our Facebook Ads and take off for the Christmas party we wanted to take a minute and embrace all that we’ve achieved this year with your help.

AAGE Conference 2018

Thanks for your support in helping us again win two AAGE Graduate Recruitment Industry Awards (AGRIA): we’re beaming with pride to take home the Award for Most Popular Supplier three years running, as well as The Best Stand Award.

We were overwhelmed with the attendance to our talk ‘Planning for an uncertain future’ which was an interactive workshop combining pub style quiz with survey stats we got from our university student database. Thanks to all those who had to stand - you can all still download the slides here.

In the meantime here are a few key takeouts:

  • Most useful content for students is still written website content, closely followed by video
  • Search habits
  • Students search for jobs on mobile but apply on a computer
  • Students expect to earn 50-59k in their graduate role

AAGE Candidate Survey 2019

After taking home two AGRIA Awards from the AAGE conference, we were humbled to be named “Australia’s most effective careers resource for uni talent” in the Australian Association of Graduate Employers (AAGE)'s Candidate Survey six years running. Which has made us consistently the most useful careers resource by successfully hired grads from 2013-2019. Get in touch if you’d like us to share our year on year analysis of the survey: [email protected].

New products - Student Part Time Jobs

You spoke and we listened - we are now trialing Student Part Time jobs for the busy period of Christmas and early 2019. The purpose of connecting with students earlier in their degree is to introduce them to your company culture before they have to make the decision of applying to graduate roles and this can be beneficial in attracting the right talent to your organisations.

If you’re a current client and you’d like to trial posting a part time job get in touch with your Account Manager or contact us on mail@gradconnection. We appreciate this may fall outside the remit of your Graduate Recruitment Team, and would be happy for you to connect us with the most relevant person in your organisation.

Top100 Graduate Employers and Future Leaders Awards

In partnership with Fairfax’s Australian Financial Review, our annual Top100 Awards is an evening celebrating Australia’s most popular graduate employers and most promising future leaders soon-to-be-graduating from Australian universities. Congratulations to the winners of our 2018 Top100. What a night! And we’re about to do it all again this coming February. If you’re not going to be there in person follow the event using #GCTop100.

We want to thank you for being a part of the journey and making 2018 an amazing year. As always we’ll be here for you if you want to start 2019 planning early, get in touch [email protected] otherwise see you in 2019!
