If you have the ability to take lead of a dental team and work with a variety of health and logistic professional, you’ll enjoy the variety offered in this dentist role.
As a Dentist in the Army, you’ll utilise your existing qualifications in a rewarding new role and experience unique situations you would never experience outside the Defence Force.
The tools at your disposal are the same as you would find in any dental surgery – but your patients are military personnel and your job impacts largescale operations. You’ll have the opportunity to work around Australia and overseas using deployable dental equipment, providing assistance in remote areas, to Indigenous communities or as part of disaster relief efforts.
As an Army Officer you’ll be mentored to take the lead of a dental team and work with a variety of Army health and logistic professionals. Through world-class military training you’ll be trained in military dentistry and to command and mentor.
As you progress in your career, you’ll keep building on your already-strong dentistry skills and broaden your leadership abilities. You’ll have the opportunity to undertake further training in clinical and health management areas, and gain confidence, military, leadership and people skills along the way.
With your Dental qualifications, the Defence Force will teach you all the skills you require through leadership and military training at the Royal Military College, Duntroon in Canberra. This initial training is 42 days.
Following your initial training, as a Dentist, you will attend a range of specialist Military Dentistry and other military courses to enhance your skills.
In the Army you'll get paid a highly competitive salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training.
On completion of your initial military and employment training, you could earn $112,081 per annum plus a generous super.
You’ll get to take advantage of the many opportunities to see more of Australia and the world. You could work in a deployable health unit or in a Joint Health Unit at an Army barracks across Australia. It’s not possible to guarantee a specific posting location for the duration of your service, therefore you must be willing to relocate.
