About the role

We have not one, but two fantastic Cadet positions available. This is an opportunity not to be missed! Both positions are fixed term, up to 8 years and involve on the job experience whilst gaining professional qualifications (part-time study), with the view to becoming a qualified, professional Engineer. Both located in Moruya, the Cadet Civil Engineer will be based from the Moruya Depot and the Cadet Development Engineer will be based from the Moruya Administration Offices.

As a Cadet Civil Engineer, your main duties will include:

  • Provide administrative and technical support in relation to Infrastructure Services operations, maintenance and construction.
  • Liaise with and advise internal staff, contractors, consultants and the community regarding Council’s requirements on engineering policies, standards and practices.
  • Carry out investigations and prepare concept plans for infrastructure construction works.
  • Carry out environmental assessments and prepare “Review of Environmental Factors” reports for infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare cost estimates and programs for construction works and projects.
  • Procurement of professional construction services
  •  Prepare Project Management Plans (PMPs) for projects.
  • Supervise service contracts and minor projects, including monitoring and reporting on project expenditures.

As a Cadet Development Engineer, your main duties will include:

  • Liaise with and advise builders, developers, architects, solicitors, engineers, designers and the community via the provisions of technical/specialist information and clarify Council’s requirements on engineering policies and practices.
  • Assess   engineering   referrals   and   provide   engineering   advice   for   development applications, including complex applications, and recommend appropriate conditions for consents.
  • Assist as part of a team in the development, implementation and review of Policies and Guidelines and contribute to the development of strategic plans associated with development engineering issues.
  • Conduct special assignments and assessments with a degree of complexity
  • Assess and determine approval/refusal for those plans submitted to satisfy engineering issues prior to issue of Construction Certificate.
